FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
BlackBerry Awarded "Authority to Operate" on U.S. Department of Defense Networks
DISA deploying BlackBerry Enterprise Service 10 to support BlackBerry 10 smartphones on DoD networks
Waterloo, ON – BlackBerry® (NASDAQ: BBRY; TSX: BB) today announced the U.S. Defense Information System Agency (DISA) has given BlackBerry® Z10 and BlackBerry® Q10 smartphones with BlackBerry® Enterprise Service 10, the Authority to Operate (ATO) on Department of Defense (DoD) networks. BlackBerry is the first Mobile Device Management (MDM) provider to obtain an ATO.
With the ATO, DISA is now developing the infrastructure to support BlackBerry 10 smartphones. DISA is architecting the capacity to support 10,000 BlackBerry 10 smartphones by this fall and 30,000 by the end of 2013 on DoD networks.
"Being the first smartphones to be supported on U.S. Department of Defense networks further establishes BlackBerry's proven and validated security model," said Scott Totzke, SVP, BlackBerry Security Group at BlackBerry. "With foreign entities – governmental and criminal – ramping up attacks on electronic communications and information systems, BlackBerry provides government agencies with a proven partner that follows top-to-bottom security protocols."
Receiving the ATO is a critical step forward in the security certification process. The approval demonstrates that BlackBerry 10 smartphones meet DoD's most stringent security requirements. BlackBerry 10 smartphones will enable DoD personnel to have the ability to securely connect to networks and access assets from work. The BlackBerry mobile infrastructure provides a highly responsive, intelligent and intuitive mobile computing experience while ensuring the personal and the corporate information on a user's phone are kept separate and safe.

Переслать - BlackBerry OS 10.2 Adds Recently Used Actions to Share Menu
It makes me happy when I see some of BlackBerry's "get things done" efficiency shine through with BlackBerry 10. They started it by suggesting contacts in the hub and now I noticed something new in BlackBerry OS 10.2. BlackBerry is showing the last two commonly used sharing options in the share menu. For example, I regularly share items with myself by sending myself an email that Gmail automatically tags as a to-do item. On top of that I also regularly share via my Gmail email account. BlackBerry 10.2 is now smart enough to offer those two shortcuts at the top of every sharing menu. The more I use a different sharing action then it will replace the current two. I am hoping BlackBerry makes it a scrolling list that you can remove items from…

Переслать - Yes WhatsApp Voice Messages Are Available for Both Legacy & BB10 BlackBerry Devices
We have had readers asking if WhatsApp also added voice messages for the Legacy BlackBerry Java devices together with BlackBerry 10 devices. I am happy to confirm that both BB10 and legacy devices got the feature added. It can take up to a day or so for the feature to show up due to the client needing to pick up the server change. Using the voice message feature on legacy devices is also a bit more subtle. You either hold down the spacebar on QWERTY devices or hold down the text input box on full touch devices. This is a little different than the holding down of the microphone icon on BlackBerry 10.

Переслать - BlackBerry Confirms Three More Execs Leaving the Company
BlackBerry has confirmed multiple times that they are collapsing the management layers as they transform the company. That continues with three more execs confirmed leaving with BlackBerry telling CBC.ca that "We are in the second phase of our transformation plan where we will be assessing our organization — from top to bottom — to ensure we have the right people in the right roles with the right skill sets to drive new opportunities in mobile computing." I have heard a similar message from BlackBerry employees where there are just too many managers for each employee. Here are the latest to be downsized:
- Doug Kozak, vice-president, corporate information technology operations.
- Carmine Arabia, senior vice-president, global manufacturing and supply chain.
- Graeme Whittington, vice-president, service operations
Hopefully all of this restructuring allowing BlackBerry to be more agile and step on the gas for product releases.
