- V-Play Game Engine Brings More Crossplatform Gaming to BlackBerry 10
BlackBerry just got another cross platform gaming engine to come on board for BlackBerry 10. The Vienna-based V-Play GmbH announced that their latest v1.4 version of their V-Play game engine is now available for BlackBerry 10. That means all of the games built on the engine can also easily be brought over. Like other engines this one lets you publish for BlackBerry for an ongoing license fee. This one is $189 per quarter ($63 per month) or with the annual license for $599 per year ($49 per month). The free version allows you to deploy the application to your local BlackBerry device so you can test before you buy.
Best of all for devs with published games for iOS, Android, Symbian, MeeGo or one of the desktop platforms. is that no modifications of the source code are required as almost all components are already fully supported on BlackBerry. The only missing ones are Video, Facebook, Flurry and Store, which will be added upon your requests.

Переслать - Augmented Reality ARKick Comes to BlackBerry 10 First
Augmented Reality just got a nice "kick" on BlackBerry 10 thanks to ARKick. They have brought their augmented reality app to the platform first with iOS and Android clients coming later. The app uses Refocus Labs SideKick engine to add contextual detail to your location. This takes into account your location along with weather, temperature, orientation, time, and social networks. Using that it shows you the best places around you built on a hybrid Cascades/HTML5 app.

Переслать - BlackBerry Adding Real Time Location Sharing in BBM Using Glympse? MyCars Page in BlackBerry World?
You may not have heard of it before but Glympse is a really cool service which is available cross platform including legacy BlackBerry devices. It allows you to share your location with others in real time for a specified period of time. Ofutur let us know that while digging through the latest OS builds and apps they found assets and code for sharing your location in BBM using Glympse. This is highlighted further with notifications including "Location Acquired", "Syncing with Glympse servers…" and "Send Glympse" along with the "S" Shortcut used to send a Glympse to a BBM user. This is the icon:
On top of that it seems like BlackBerry is adding a new MyCars page in BlackBerry World just like the current music or My World tabs. No word on what would be included in such a tab but my guess is QNX enabled cars? You can delve into it further in these two forum threads.

Vienna, VA – August 13, 2013: Cellcrypt, a leading provider of encrypted voice calling and messaging for smartphones and tablets, today announced general availability of Cellcrypt Mobile™ for BlackBerry® 10 smartphones.
Unsecured calls over smartphones are increasingly vulnerable to cellular interception, via attacks that are often undetectable to the phone's owner. In a world of increased surveillance and demonstrated attacks by hacker organizations, the need to secure one's communications is greater than ever before. Cellcrypt Mobile for BlackBerry 10 delivers an easy to use downloadable application to counter cyber-crime by preventing voice interception on BlackBerry 10 smartphones.
Cellcrypt Mobile for BlackBerry 10 delivers end-to-end, real-time encryption to protect private conversations from being compromised, enabling individuals within corporations and governments to converse in a highly secure manner without the need for specialized hardware, making secure calling as easy as an ordinary mobile phone call.
"Security-conscious individuals desire an added layer of protection," said David Rivington, CEO of Cellcrypt. "Cellcrypt brings FIPS-validated voice encryption in a software application, easily downloaded to your new BlackBerry 10 smartphone, offering a powerfully secure combination."
Cellcrypt Mobile for BlackBerry 10 is immediately available as a free download on the BlackBerry® World™ storefront and requires a subscription to the Cellcrypt Encrypted Voice Service™ to enable handsets to make encrypted calls to other Cellcrypt Encrypted Voice Service subscribers. Переслать - BlackBerry US Market Share Still Topping Windows Phone
A few readers have pointed out the latest ComScore data to come out on market share for smartphone OEMs. The latest data shows BlackBerry having only 4.4% of the smartphone platform pie vs having 5.2% 3 months ago. On the other hand the next competitor down is Microsoft which sits at 3.1% market share compared to 3.0% market share 3 months ago. Both of those are not idea situations but it just goes to show that this is still a race for 3rd place. Right now Windows Phone is struggling to become relevant though people seem to think it might have a chance of success over BlackBerry 10 due to Microsoft's deep pockets. It seems like even Microsoft's deep pockets can only move the needle 0.1% with Nokia launching flagship new Windows Mobile phones…
Here is to hoping BlackBerry has a way to turn back this downward market share trend soon!

Переслать - Hub Integrated & Headless Apps Revealed in 10.2 SDK – Developers Must Apply for Access
Two of the features I have been really waiting for developers to get their hands on is headless apps and BlackBerry Hub integration. Both of them have been revealed in BlackBerry 10.2 though a few developers have been granted access to them in earlier OS builds. Now BlackBerry is asking developers to apply for access to add this permission to their app if they plan on running in the background for more than 20 seconds. (The application is here) BlackBerry has also detailed some of the limits they have placed on background headless apps that do not have a UI to ensure they do not kill your device performance or battery.
First of all background apps can occupy only 3MB of memory but can allocate more through system permissions. They also have their CPU usage limited to 7-25% when they are running in the background. This usage limit is also based on if the app is in the system, background, stop, or traditional Foreground position. By default a headless app also only runs for 20 seconds and must ask users for the _sys_run_headless permission but longer running apps have to apply to BlackBerry for _sys_headless_nostop permissions. Background apps can no be set to either launch based on push/sms/geofencing or they can just start based on a broadcast trigger like the device booting up or shutting down.
Check out the details over here

Переслать - Promo Codes Slowly Rolling Out in BlackBerry World for BlackBerry 10
It seems like BlackBerry is finally giving more developers control of coupon codes. First they started testing it in the Beta Zone with some users for music and now we have more devs using it. MLB at Bat just gave away 1000 licenses on CrackBerry forums. All you have to do is go to the product page on a BlackBerry 10 device and swipe down from the top bezel and click the Redeem button to put in a code.
Its finally coming…

Переслать - BlackBerry Confirms Miracast Not Coming to BlackBerry Z10 – Wi-Fi Direct Still Supported
Some of you may know Miracast as an open standard that was made to take on Apple's AirPlay Mirroring. It has been slow getting off the ground with only a small subset of TV's supporting it but you can easily get a dongle that will work with any TV. BlackBerry is adding support for Miracast in BlackBerry 10.2 but sadly as we had assumed the chipset in the BlackBerry Z10 does not support Miracast over Wi-Fi Direct. On the other hand BlackBerry Z10 devices will still have Wi-Fi Direct support. The Q10 and Q5 along with the upcoming Z30 should do Miracast just fine. Kudos to Bla1ze @CrackBerry for confirming.
