- The Big Difference Between WhatsApp vs BBM Sent, Delivery, & Read Notifications
We have been getting this question a few times recently and I thought I would address it. I personally use both BBM and WhatsApp and they are both great for different purposes. They are very similar systems but there are some key differences that have users confused. The check marks, delivery marks, and read marks ARE NOT THE SAME!
In WhatsApp the check marks mean:
- One Check – message successfully delivered to the server.
- Two Checks – message successfully delivered to the phone of your chat partner.
- THERE IS NO confirmation when your chat partner reads your message (confirmed in their documentation)
This is compared to BBM where: you have four different icons:
- Three signal sheilds – Sending message
- Check mark – Message has been sent to server
- Check mark with letter D – Message has been delivered to chat partner
- Check mark with letter R – Message has been read by chat partner
Its as simple as that. Once again both are useful services though WhatsApp costs a nominal fee a year. Still its an interesting difference. I am wondering if WhatsApp will ever add notification of items being read.

Переслать - BlackBerry Adds "Others Also Downloaded" Recommendations to On Device BlackBerry World App
We told you earlier this month that BlackBerry started adding a basic recommendation engine to the BlackBerry World website. They essentially have a box that now shows you what others also downloaded. I am glad to report that while going through BlackBerry World on my Q10 (running the latest 10.1 leak) yesterday I spotted something similar showing up in certain apps. BlackBerry is offering up 8 apps that users also downloaded. Sadly this is not available for all apps but it seems to be picking up.
Hopefully they also add the ability to see similar apps shortly based on popularity and common search terms/tags.

Переслать - Separate Notifications for BBM Groups FINALLY coming in BlackBerry OS 10.2
One of the things that has really annoyed me since I moved to BlackBerry 10 is the notification system. BlackBerry has been slowly fixing this embarrassing execution of a feature that they previously led the market with in BlackBerry 7. One of the major complaints we have been hearing is that BlackBerry idiotically combined BBM message notifications together with BBM Group notifications. Talk about a big goof when users actually use BBM for important conversations and Groups for less urgent conversations. That is like combining your email and phone call notification sounds.
Thankfully Michael Clewley has confirmed on his BBM Channel (Which also has no notifications) that this will be rectified by the end of the year. He confirmed that OS 10.2 is going to add BBM Group notifications separately.
Thanks to Pete for sending this in via CrackBerry

Переслать - BlackBerry 9720 Official Render Leaks Out Borrowing a Bit from Multiple Devices
The BlackBerry 9720 really strikes me as a sort of Frankenstein of BlackBerrys. It borrows elements from many older devices and packs them into a new package with raised buttons like the 9790 and ribbed backing like the Torch. Evleaksscored this latest image of what looks like a press shot of the 9790 codename samoa device. Let us know what you think.
Thanks to everyone who sent this in!
