- IT Manager for BlackBerry 10 Adds SSH & Telnet to BES 10 & 5 Management App
IT Manager is a really cool utility for BlackBerry 10 (and BlackBerry OS 5.0+) devices from SmarterApps. It allows you to perform quite a bit of server administration from your device. They just added SSH and Telnet capabilities to the BlackBerry 10 client so you can manage your linux, unix, routers, etc from your device. Its a pretty impressive feature set though sadly it comes at a high price. There is a 7 day free trial after which pricing starts at $2.99/week, $9.99/month or $99/year (USD).
Check out IT Manager on their website or find the free trial in BlackBerry World

Переслать - Tank Recon 2 Sequel Rolls Onto the BlackBerry Z10 & PlayBook
Lone Dwarf Games has brought the sequel of Tank Recon to the BlackBerry PlayBook and BlackBerry 10 this week. They originally launched Tank Recon on the PlayBook back in December of 2011 so it has been awhile. This sequel takes things even further with more 3D tank fun and a more advanced tank codenamed Alpha. Your job is to more or less take down everything in your sight and blow it up. There is one campaign to play through with 4 missions that should keep you buys. best of all you can play your own "tanking like a boss" playlist as your soundtrack.

Переслать - BlackBerry KB Confirms Lost SMS & MMS Bug In Latest 10.1 MR1 OS Update
Has SMS on your BlackBerry 10 device gone a bit wonky since you upgraded to the new BlackBerry OS 10.1 Maintenance Release earlier this week? I am sad to report that we have been hearing about this since the launch. Users are reporting that they are losing their SMS since the upgrade to the new maintenance release. I have a more annoying issue on my update where even when I delete all SMS it still shows 1 unread SMS but when I click on any SMS it takes me to the compose screen.
Either way BlackBerry has confirmed the issue in a Knowledge Base article on the subject today. It confirms the issue with SMS and MMS on OS 10.1.0.4633. There is sadly no resolution timeframe yet.
PS: This is what I was talking about earlier in the week on Twitter. BlackBerry really needs a method to roll out a follow up update to fix these small bugs without waiting for a whole new 3 month release cycle.

Переслать - BlackBerry Sending Young Canadians to Volunteer in Kenya and India
Its always nice to see the human side of BlackBerry shine through. For the third summer in a row BlackBerry is teaming up with Free The Children to send 50 Canadian students on a Me to We volunteer trip to Kenya and India. This is all part of their BlackBerry Build a Village Award Program giving young leaders a chance to see other cultures and gain experience with community development efforts in these countries. Check out the details in the announcement below. Children in Waterloo region can apply for 2014 here.
BlackBerry and Free The Children Inspire Canadian Youth to Build-A-Village
WATERLOO, ONTARIO–(Marketwired – July 31, 2013) -
Editors Note: There is a photo associated with this press release.
For the third consecutive summer, BlackBerry(R) (NASDAQ:BBRY)(TSX:BB) and Free The Children will be sending 50 Canadian students on a Me to We life-changing volunteer trip to Kenya and India as part of the BlackBerry(R) Build-A-Village Award Program. Through the program, BlackBerry is giving youth an opportunity to immerse themselves in a new culture, and gain hands-on experience with sustainable community development projects abroad.
BlackBerry has partnered with Free The Children to send the students to its Adopt a Village communities in Eor Ewuaso, Kenya and Bagad, India, with the core mission of eliminating the obstacles preventing children from accessing education. For three weeks, students will embark on a variety of programs such as helping to build a school and planting trees. Students will also have the opportunity to learn from community leaders, participate in leadership development activities, and delve into daily discussions on tackling social issues. The students will truly be immersed in the community, learning to speak the local language, as well as learning the culture, traditions, joys and daily challenges faced by the community.
"We are thrilled to work with such an innovative company like BlackBerry year after year to help inspire and make a positive impact in the lives of young people through international volunteer travel," says Marc Kielburger, co-founder of Free The Children and Me to We. "The opportunity to travel and volunteer across the globe is an incredible opportunity for young people to not only make a difference to a community in need, but also to learn about themselves and become empowered to help make a difference right in their own community when they return."
"As champions of ambition, BlackBerry aims to empower youth with the Build-A-Village Award Program, to help them realize their fullest potential as agents of change in their own community and the world. The BlackBerry Build A Village Award Program is a unique, transformative initiative where the students involved can really see how their contributions have positively impacted the lives of so many children and families from communities in need, while at the same time, transforming their own lives and perspectives. Education is at the heart of BlackBerry’s Citizenship initiatives and we believe in the importance of education to inspire the next generation of leaders," said Andrew MacLeod, Managing Director for Canada at BlackBerry.
This year’s winners, ranging from the ages of 14 to 18, are students from the Waterloo region. They were selected for their dynamism, passion, leadership qualities and the contributions they have made to their local community. While coming from diverse backgrounds, they share the common goal of having a fierce determination to create social change.
The BlackBerry Build A Village Award Program is in its third year, and through the program’s first two years, 100 students have participated to build six classrooms in Eor Ewuaso, Kenya and three classrooms in Bagad, India with two more additional classrooms to be completed this year.
BlackBerry will also be a key partner of Free The Children’s stadium-sized educational event We Day. Bringing together a generation of youth to lead a movement of local and global change, We Day takes place in major cities across North America with BlackBerry as the Title Sponsor in Waterloo Region (November 20) and support for other cities including Toronto (September 20), Vancouver (October 18), Halifax (November 27) and Ottawa (spring 2014).

Переслать - FAQ: All The Current BlackBerry 10 Models and Their Hardware IDs
Over the last few months we have seen a bit of confusion about the different BlackBerry 10 models. Some people may not realize that there are five different variants of the Q10 and four different Z10 models. If you have installed a leaked OS before then you are familiar with some of these distinctions. We broke down their specs for the BlackBerry Q10 models and BlackBerry Z10 models previously. Recently I was trying to deploy an enterprise wallpaper and ran into the following chart from BlackBerry that provides just a bit more detail on the Hardware ID compared to the device model. Let us know if it helps:
Model Hardware ID BlackBerry Dev Alpha 4002607 BlackBerry Dev Alpha C 8D00270A BlackBerry Z10 (STL100-1) 4002607 BlackBerry Z10 (STL100-2) 8700240A BlackBerry Z10 (STL100-3) 8500240A BlackBerry Z10 (STL100-4) 8400240A BlackBerry Q10 (SQN100-1) 8400270A BlackBerry Q10 (SQN100-2) 8500270A BlackBerry Q10 (SQN100-3) 8600270A BlackBerry Q10 (SQN100-4) 8C00270A BlackBerry Q10 (SQN100-5) 8700270A BlackBerry Q5 (SQR100-1) 84002A0A BlackBerry Q5 (SQR100-2) 85002A0A BlackBerry Q5 (SQR100-3) 86002A0A

Переслать - Arcade Classic RAIDEN Series Lands on BlackBerry 10
BlackBerry 10 got a nice helping of vertical scrolling arcade shooter thanks to DotEmu. They have brought together all four RAIDEN arcade series games to all the BlackBerry 10 models. This includes RAIDEN, RAIDEN FIGHTERS, RAIDEN FIGHTERS 2 & RAIDEN FIGHTERS JET originally developed by Seibu Kaihatsu. All four of the games have been recreated for mobile controls but they also throw in some new features. That means you have the classic easy to pick up arcade mode along with a mission mode. There are also more ships along with ScoreLoop integration!

Переслать - LocalBar Developer Creates OTA BlackBerry 10 BAR App Conversion & Install Service
Online BAR Manager speaks to the lengths that BlackBerry has forced their users to go by not supporting OTA downloads on BlackBerry 10. I have already written at length about the issue but sadly this is the road BlackBerry has decided to go. The developer of LocalBar has long been struggling against this limitation since the BlackBerry PlayBook first rolled out and has had some success with semi-OTA downloads. Now they have gone out and created a whole service that packages together a client, a VPN service, online BAR and APK storage (8GB), automatic downloading of APK's from Google Play, and debug token creation all into one $2.99/month service. They even have a free service that gives you 256MB of storage, offers APK conversion, but does not have the VPN for OTA downloads. The main catch is that you have to enable the VPN connection and turn on development mode every time you want to do an OTA install.
I am not sure how big the appeal will be for a service like this that costs $2.99 a month but it just goes to show how annoying this BlackBerry 10 limitation is. Check out the innovation service at barinstall.com
Kudos to DJReyes @CrackBerry for spotting the service.

Переслать - Secret Pictures Tries to Recreate SnapChat Over BBM (With More Security)
The popular sexting app SnapChat is still limited to iOS and Android which frustrates many BlackBerry owners. ShaoSoft is trying to do something about that with Secret Pictures for BBM. The app emulates much of SnapChat but since it runs over BBM the security is MUCH better. First of all the app disables screenshots though that does not stop someone from taking a picture of the screen… On top of that the images are encrypted in transfer. Both you and your friend have to have the app installed to use the feature but it does have a nice workflow allowing you to snap a picture, add a caption, and send from the app. The data is only sent through BBM instead of going through a different server.
The only downside is that the Secret Pictures app costs $1.99 which is going to severely limit its usefulness. Hopefully ShaoSoft releases a free ad supported version in the near future to defeat the classic chicken vs egg app conundrum.

Переслать - Porsche Design BlackBerry 10 (L-Series?) Back Cover Caught on Camera
I have been wondering if BlackBerry was going to follow up their Porsche Design models for BlackBerry 10. The P'9981 actually sold surprisingly well which would lead me to think they had a follow up in store. Now we have some images of such a device courtesy of both Tinhte.vn and BlackBerry Vietnam. Right now we can only see what looks like a back cover for a BlackBerry 10 device along with some grainy shots of some parts of the device. We got a tip that this might be the R127 or R117 King device Ofutur discovered in the configs. With that said this might be a BlackBerry Z10 in a Porsche Design style.
Either way let us know what you think!

They also now allow you to manage your feeds from the app and subscribe to new ones. For those of you who do not like Feedly they now also have Alpha support for NewsBlur. My favorite new feature is also the ability to have images in the feed list which is currently in beta.
