- BlackBerry PlayBook Gets a VoIP Client Taki With SIP Support
Dmytro let us know about his latest BlackBerry PlayBook app called Taki. Taki is a native SIP softphone VoIP client that can be used with multiple VoIP services. This allows you to make calls from your PlayBook if you are subscribed to a VoIP service that supports SIP (here are their recommended ones). According to the dev this can also be used to talk to Skype contacts if you have a Skype SIP profile or use a SIP provider that provides an interconnect with Skype.
I have not had a chance to try out Taki myself but check it out for $0.99 in App World or at the project website. Keep in mind this is the first release of Taki so expect some bugs. Let us know what you think if you get it to work.

Переслать - Nobex Contacts Beta Scans Your Emails For Contact Information
Nobex Technologies is well known for their Nobex Radio streaming service and apps. It seems like they have extended a bit beyond that with a new Nobex Contacts service that showed up in App World. Jason pointed out the service (via BBNews.pl) which scans your incoming email for new address or contact details in signatures and adds it to your address book. Some of you may realize that there are a few services that already do something like this with the most popular being Gwabbit.
I am not sure what made Nobex decide this is the time to launch a contacts scanner app but early reports are saying it works well. I am still just as hung up about the service scanning all of your incoming emails on their servers but their privacy policy might assuage your concerns. They also have a manual mode which only processes emails you manually send to Nobex's servers.
Check out Nobex Contacts in App World or at www.nobexcontacts.com. They seem to be in beta until the end of September and it looks like it will be free until then.

Переслать - RIM Wins LIDE Business Marketing Award For Brazilian Marketing Campaign
For a company that has a history of lackluster marketing efforts its nice to see RIM doing well in the emerging markets that are currently sustaining them. Diego let me know that RIM was awarded the LIDE Business Marketing for their "Qual é o seu outro lado" (What’s your other side) campaign, which targeted exclusively the Brazilian market. The campaign showed the other side (fun/sportive) of local celebrities João Dória Jr, Malvino Salvador, MariMoon, Sabrina Sato and Tony Belotto.
I found some samples of the campaign embedded below but let me know if you spot more.

Переслать - Watch Anders Jeppsson, RIM's Director of Gaming, Talk About BlackBerry 10 Gaming
Last time I ran into Anders Jeppsson I had to shake his hand for almost single handedly cultivating the current PlayBook gaming ecosystem and future BlackBerry 10 gaming titles. Shahriyar @BBin spotted a YouTube video from Casual Connect Seattle which has Anders Jeppsson discussing the opportunity for BlackBerry 10 gaming and the platform. This recording is from July of this year and is a really great way to get a recap of Jeppsson's passion and vision for BlackBerry 10 and the future of gaming.

You are clearing the path on 80 levels in 4 game worlds with 5 gameplay styles. There are also 14 types of bombs which spices things up. Bombergeddon is not the most amazing game ever but it does have some classic gameplay to offer and the price is right.

Переслать - Super Slim ChargeCard Adds MicroUSB Support for BlackBerrys
The Kickstarter crew behind the ChargeCard for iOS devices let us know that they have updated their project with a MicroUSB offering. Since you may not have heard about ChargeCard before here is a bit of background. ChargeCard promises to be the slimmest charging and data cable for mobile devices that fits in your wallet.
Here is what the ChargeCard team let us know:
This is Brian from the ChargeCard Project. We unveiled the Micro USB version of the popular iPhone ChargeCard and wanted to shoot an email your way. We are big fans of BlackBerry, we were all total "Crack Berry" addicts in Madrid when we got the idea! Like the iPhone ChargeCard, Micro USB ChargeCard also allows both charging and data transfer, and will work with any Micro USB equipped device.
This is definitely one of those projects I will be jumping on and telling my friends about. Check out the details about the MicroUSB ChargeCard on their Kickstarter update post. You can back the ChargeCard project for $20+ to get in on the ChargeCard goodness. It comes in white, black, and Bird.
I am also hoping they can update the BlackBerry render they are using to a newer device.

Переслать - StreetSafe Safety App Comes To BlackBerry (Great Idea)
A friend awhile back told me that there should be an app like StreetSafe for BlackBerry. The title themselves as a one of a kind service that turns your phone into a security system. If you are feeling uneasy and want someone to be on the phone with you until you get to your destination you just fire up StreetSafe. They have a Walk With Me feature that connects you with trained Safety Advisors who will recommend what you should do. If they think it is pertinent they will alert police if you need immediate help. They also have a silent alarm that dispatches emergency help to your GPS coordinates.
According to their announcement below the service is now available for BlackBerry 7 along with BlackBerry 5 and 6 devices. Check out the service at www.streetsafe.com and let us know what you think if you try it out!
STREETSAFE, A MOBILE PERSONAL SECURITY SERVICE, NOW AVAILABLE FOR BLACKBERRY 7
CHICAGO, IL (August 16, 2012) PeopleGuard, one of the fastest growing players in the security industry, announced today that their unique mobile personal security service, StreetSafe, is now available for Blackberry 7, continuing its commitment to supporting next generation devices and platforms.
StreetSafe turns smart phones into highly effective personal security devices by combining wireless networks with GPS technologies and a state-of-the-art safety network and database. It is the only service that connects the subscriber to a live, highly trained personal Safety Advisor each time the service is activated. StreetSafe Safety Advisors, who supervise the call center, are active off-duty police officers who are trained to handle emergency situations.
"In addition to being available to more consumers, it also makes our corporate plans more accessible to companies who wish to protect their employees," said Tom Rissman, CEO of PeopleGuard, LLC. "As technology evolves, so do our services, because we are acutely aware that even when diligent, there are times when an extra measure of protection is the difference between becoming a victim and getting to your destination safely."
StreetSafe works on smart phones on any carrier network from virtually all major manufacturers, including Blackberry 5, 6 and 7; iPhone 3GS, 4 and 4S; Android 1.6 and above; and Windows Phone 7.
"Evidence shows that crime is linked to the economic climate — economic stress can cause an increase in criminal behavior," added Marcia Peot, Chief Safety Officer, StreetSafe. "We are seeing some evidence of this in cities like Chicago, creating an urgent need for safety services to be available to as many people as possible, on as many types of devices as possible."
StreetSafe Features – More than a Call for Help
Walk with Me is a personal security escort. Slide the green button to be connected to a live Safety Advisor, who will stay on the line until the subscriber reaches their destination safely. If help is needed right away, but the subscriber is unable to dial 911, they can activate theSilent Alarm, and StreetSafe will contact the local 911 center with your location and personal profile data. No other action is required.
Offering more than just a call for help, StreetSafe will continue to track the subscriber's location through GPS, relaying their position to the authorities and transmitting vital information such as age, physical description and any medical conditions, so that help can find them quickly.
StreetSafe is not a tracking service and maintains its subscribers’ privacy at all times.
Access to StreetSafe is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Simply register, choose a plan, create a profile and download the StreetSafe app to your smart phone. Several affordable subscription plans are available, including individual, family, and corporate plans.
About StreetSafe
Based in Chicago, Illinois, StreetSafe is designed and manufactured by PeopleGuard, one of the fastest growing players in the security industry. StreetSafe recently won the 2011 Vision Award, which is awarded to a company that has shown the most visionary application and forward-thinking use of the Interactive Intelligence solutions.
