- 10Tons Releases Puzkend Puzzler Follow Up to Azkend 2
We told you when 10Tons launched Azkend 2: The World Beneath for the PlayBook last week as a follow up to the original. Now they have followed up with the launch of Puzkend that replaces Azkend's action puzzle style with just a pure puzzle style. That means there are 244 levels of puzzles where you have to clear the board by matching tiles. There is no time limit and unlimited undos. In other words this is the more relaxing but challenging puzzler from 10Tons.
Check out Puzkend for $1.99 in App World. Check out the trailer for the game below to get an idea of the gameplay:

Переслать - Jabra Solemate & Satechi Swift Bluetooth Speakers
I am always on the hunt for a better Bluetooth speaker to listen to music in the shower so I had to check out the Jabra Soulmate and Satechi Swift BT Speaker. The Soulmate is a new Bluetooth speaker from Jabra that actually has a rubber sole on the bottom that you can replace with other options. It is set to launch September 2nd but is going to sell for a whopping $199 from Amazon, BestBuy, and the likes.
If you want to go with a cheaper option then the Satechi Swift BT Speaker may be your bet for only $29.99. Supposedly the Saitech Swift packs a real punch and a 4 hour battery life. The only downside is that it is charged by MiniUSB that has fallen out of favor for MicroUSB. Check it out from Satechi for $29.99.

Переслать - RIM Shares High Level Roadmap for BlackBerry Enterprise Service 10
RIM just introduced Mobile Fusion in May of this year and it looks like that name will be going away in 2013 and replaced with BlackBerry Enterprise Service 10. Jeff Holleran, RIM's Senior Director for Enterprise Product Management, wrote up a great follow up to his ActiveSync explanation this time focusing on the next six months of enterprise solutions from RIM. Here are some of the highlights:
- At the initial launch of BlackBerry Enterprise Service 10 companies will need a separate server for BES 5.x deployments with BlackBerry Device Service and Universal device services being able to be virtualized on the same machine just like Mobile Fusion does now.
- A scheduled upgrade is set for BlackBerry World in May 2013 where they will consolidate BlackBerry Device Service and Universal Device Service into one component.
- That same upgrade will allow BlackBerry Enterprise Service 10 and BlackBerry Enterprise Servers (BES 5.0.3) to run on the same physical server.
- BlackBerry Enterprise Service 10 is a consolidation of all of RIM's enterprise management products and will integrate with current BES deployments at launch. That will allow you to manage BlackBerry 7, BlackBerry 10, PlayBook, iOS, and Android devices.
- BlackBerry Enterprise Service 10 is scheduled to launch with the first BlackBerry 10 device in Q1 of 2013
- During 2013 RIM will rename BlackBerry Mobile Fusion, BlackBerry Device Service, and Universal Device Service into just BlackBerry Enterprise Service 10
Not too much detail in there but still good to know. What I really want to know is what IT Policies and Management configurations RIM will support at launch of BlackBerry 10. Those IT Policies are where RIM really shines in the enterprise and government sectors. Check out the details of Holleran's update here.
PS: What do you guys think of RIM continuing the same BES acronym for BlackBerry Enterprise Service 10? Will it be confusing or will it streamline conversation?

Переслать - Turns Out Apple May Not Exactly Own "Pinch to Zoom"
With all the craziness in the Apple vs Samsung battle one of the patents that seems to keep on coming up is the "pinch to zoom" gesture. It was introduced with the original iPhone and other vendors have been jumping around it since. Even RIM added pinch to zoom in apps like the browser and email since they purchased Torch mobile. This has made some wonder what Steve Jobs meant back in 2007 when he said "Boy we have patented it" for "Pinch to Zoom."
Nilay Patel of The Verge has attempted to deconstruct the "Myth" that Apple has a patent on "Pinch to Zoom." It looks like Apple only has a limited patent on a certain use of "Pinch to Zoom." Even according to Google "Apple’s ’915 patent claims a very specific software implementation, and the implementation is different in Jelly Bean."
It should be interesting to see what vendors including RIM do now that Apple has won this patent battle. I am really hoping they stick with "pinch to zoom" and find a way around Apple's implementation. If you are interested in the details I recommend checking out Patel's full writeup here.

Переслать - Don't Install FinFisher Malware On Your BlackBerry
There has been a bit of a media craze about FinFisher and its remote control malware toolkit recently. The media (Bloomberg) is reporting about a new malware strain found called FinFisher that is targeting Windows Phone, iOS, Android, BlackBerry, and Symbian and can remotely control the devices. They fail to mention that users on BlackBerry have to actively install this malware on their device for it to work since it does not exploit any weakness in the BlackBerry software.
This has lead to RIM recommending once again that users not install malware on their BlackBerrys. This is pretty self explanatory but I guess it needs to be mentioned. They also recommend not giving malicious apps the permissions to perform sensitive functions on your BlackBerry. Check out their post on the BizBlog for more details.

Переслать - More (Limited) Hands On Impressions of BlackBerry 10 Devices
Our friends over at CrackBerry have gotten some time with RIM's upcoming BlackBerry 10 QWERTY and touchscreen devices and posted the limited details they could. Obviously there is more they were not allowed to say but it does give us a few more details to pine over. They confirmed MicroUSB, MicroHDMI, MicroSIM, and hinted towards possibly having a MicroSD slot but there is no confirmation on that. They are also loving the BlackBerry 10 software though they could not say much new about it.
I highly recommend checking out their impressions that Kevin wrote up. Let us know what you think in the comments!

Переслать - How to Take a Screenshot of your BlackBerry from Mac OSX Terminal
You have been able to take screenshots from your BlackBerry Smartphone using your PC for ages now with the help of JavaLoader. I knew it was possible to do the same with the Desktop Manager for Mac but I never did find good documentation for it. Turns out RIM has provided just that to make it easy to take screenshots from your Apple Mac if you have Desktop Manager installed. Here are the instructions
To take a screenshot of the active display on a BlackBerry® smartphone, complete the following steps:
- Connect the BlackBerry smartphone to the Macintosh computer using a USB cable
- Open Terminal
- Type: cd /Applications/BlackBerry\ Desktop\ Software.app/Contents/MacOS/
- Type: ./bbdm screenshot active ~/Desktop/screenshot.png
Note: If the BlackBerry smartphone has a password, type ./bbdm -password <password>, where<password> is the password which is set on the BlackBerry smartphone.
By default, the screenshot is saved on the desktop named screenshot.pngIf you liked this article, you might find these interesting:

Переслать - MessagesToCalendar Saves Incoming and Outgoing Email to Your Calendar
ToySoft let us know about one of their newer creations called MessagesToCalendar. The app performs the interesting function of logging your incoming and outgoing email and PIN messages to the calendar sort of like a journal. While I don't know why you would want to log all email the app does allow you to set it up to only log specific contacts or senders. For example, you can use it to log all email from and to your boss or clients on the calendar. The To and From fields are saved along with the body of the email in the notes field though not the attachments.
Features include:
- Supports BIS and BES email accounts
- Save both incoming and outgoing email and PIN messages
- Setup Contact Category filtering
- Setup email and PIN filtering
- Disable and Enable MessagesToCalendar
- Runs in the background and do not need any user intervention
- Quick and easy to setup
- When you sync with the Desktop all your messages will be synced too
- A better way to backup your email and PIN messages
- A better way to view your daily activity from the Calendar in Agenda view
Check out MessagesToCalendar for $1.99 in App World

Переслать - BlackBerry PlayBook Travel & Rapid Charger Drop in Price @Amazon
After I picked up the J-M1 dual battery charger yesterday I was looking for a second charger for my PlayBook for the office. Turns out those accessories have also dropped in price with the original folding blade travel charger that ships with the PlayBook selling for about $16 shipped on Amazon. For those of you who need the absolute fastest charge they have also dropped the price of the rapid travel charger from the retail $69.99 to only $36. For another $27 you can also marry that to a rapid charging stand for your desk. I also picked up an OEM leather sleeve for my PlayBook for another $13.
Let me know if you spot any other solid deals or price drops on BlackBerry accessories!

Переслать - BlackBerry ID Login Coming to Developer JamZone, Forums, & Issue Tracker
RIM is moving closer towards my dream of one login to rule them all. Earlier this week we told you that RIM was making the BlackBerry Beta Zone use your BlackBerry ID as a login instead of a separate login. Now they are taking that message to the BlackBerry JamZone for developers. That also includes the JamZone Rewards system, Issue Tracker, and Lithium developer forums. As far as I can tell that will also mean the forum logins on the official BlackBerry forums will also use the BlackBerry ID system.
This change is planned to happen in the next few weeks. I am really liking that RIM is finally taking action on this one but it makes me wonder what took so long.
Check out the details on the BlackBerry DevBlog.

Переслать - Application Resource Monitor Now Available for All OS 7.1 BlackBerrys
We first heard of Application Resource Monitor back in May of this year and it was a novel concept for RIM. The app would shut down offending and battery consuming apps before they could cause major harm. The only catch was that the app only shipped on OS versions after a certain date which many carriers have not updated to officially. That means users have been left without Application Resource Monitor.
Earlier this month RIM released Application Resource Monitor in the Beta Zone for all OS 7.1+ devices and now Debbie let us know it has been rolled out to App World. That means you can go an pick up Application Resource Monitor free in App World at this link.
