RIM decided to highlight another one of BlackBerry 10s improvements and innovations. This one is called Space Inference where the BlackBerry 10 predictive keyboard will automatically insert spaces where you forget them. Переслать - Survey Finds Majority of Users Will Upgrade to BlackBerry 10
I am still in a bit of a daze when I read analyst reports that are bullish on RIM. The latest is from The Street (via N4BB) that explains why RIM is different from Palm and its all about the installed base. The author Eric Jackson, founder and Managing Member of Ironfire Capital, found that:
According to surveys that Scotia Capital analyst Gus Papageorgiou has seen, 70% of existing RIM subscribers plan to upgrade. That would be massive and I can’t quite imagine that’s possible even in my wildest dreams. However, 30-40 million out of 80 million seems very doable (including a few million of completely new BlackBerry subscribers).
In short this is another analyst that is bullish on RIM being able to convert a large portion of their current subscribers. That includes RIM's ~8 million customers in the US.

Переслать - U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement Launches BlackBerry 10 Pilot Program
The U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement made a bit stink in October about dropping BlackBerrys for iPhone support in the future. Now they have announced together with RIM that they are piloting BlackBerry 10 support. They will be among the first in government to test BlackBerry 10 devices and BlackBerry Enterprise Service 10 for its needs for secure, reliable mobile computing and communication.
Check out the announcement below:
U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement to Launch BlackBerry 10 Pilot Program
WASHINGTON, DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA–(Dec. 13, 2012) – Research In Motion (RIM) (NASDAQ:RIMM)(TSX:RIM) announced today that it will begin a pilot program with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) for the new BlackBerry® Enterprise Service 10 mobile enterprise management solution and BlackBerry® 10 smartphones in early 2013. ICE will be among the first government organizations to pilot the new BlackBerry 10 solution.
"ICE has been a valued BlackBerry customer for years, and our commitment to government agencies has influenced the development of the BlackBerry 10 platform." said Scott Totzke, Senior Vice President, BlackBerry Security, Research In Motion. "Along with providing workers with secure access to behind-the-firewall confidential information, BlackBerry 10 can help organizations fully leverage the potential of mobile technology to offer new services, improve service delivery and increase organizational productivity. We look forward to sharing more features of the BlackBerry 10 platform at our global launch event on January 30."
RIM recently announced that the BlackBerry 10 platform has received FIPS 140-2 certification ahead of launch. The certification enables government agencies to deploy BlackBerry 10 smartphones and BlackBerry Enterprise Service 10 from the day of launch. RIM first introduced mobile device management solutions more than a decade ago and continues to be a global leader in providing mobility solutions to government agencies.

Переслать - Numbers Don't Lie. BlackBerry is Far From Dead
I know I'm not the only one that's completely fed up with so called analysts and ill-informed naysayers declaring that RIM is dead. Most either ignore the hard facts or have no idea what the actual situation is. One of the most ridiculous articles I have seen to date commenting on RIM's downfall compares BlackBerry Flow and BlackBerry Hub to "the swipe-down menu from Apple's iPhone." Really? He goes on to say that the keyboard "sounds like a combination of autocorrect and the Swype app." The best part of the article is when he references RIM's cash reserve of "$2 million." Perfect. Someone who doesn't know the difference between million and billion giving stock advice. Luckily, due to his lambasting in the comments of his article, he at least corrected the mistake. I'm surprised the article still exists at all with all of the other blunders that remain.
This guy has obviously never handled a dev alpha, let alone BB10 final hardware. Heck, he hasn't even bothered to watch a youtube video or two about how BB10 actually works. I don't proclaim to be an expert myself, but I do make sure to be at least a little bit informed before I spew such a mess to the masses.
Lucas over at N4BB snagged the above picture at the BlackBerry 10 Gold SDK tweetup in New York which outlines the facts about RIM and why they are FAR from dead. One of the most telling statistics is the last one on the slide. If 90% of America's highest ranked corporations depend on BlackBerry to run their mobile operations, RIM must be doing something right.
We know that some organizations have been dropping RIM as their primary mobile service provider. This comes as little surprise as BlackBerry has definitely fallen from their once dominant position and is not the cool kid anymore. However; with BlackBerry 10 on the horizon, we are already seeing the pendulum swing back into RIM territory.
Back in October, The U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency (ICE) announced that they will be ending their contract with RIM in favor of Apple. Since ICE employs 17,600 this is kind of a big deal, especially for RIM given their recent troubles. Reuters has reported today that ICE may not be done with RIM just yet. An ICE spokeswoman announced they are set to begin the new year on a pilot program on BlackBerry 10 devices and BES 10.
Although this doesn't necessarily mean RIM has re-secured almost 18,000 lost clients, I have a pretty good feeling that once people get these smooth, powerful, BlackBerry 10 devices in their hands and see how they can make their lives easier, ICE will make the smart choice and stick with RIM.
So next time you hear, "BlackBerry is dead!" or, "RIM is going down," remind the poor, uninformed soul of some of the facts. Numbers don't lie. BlackBerry is FAR from dead.

Переслать - Throw The Knife Bug Killing Game for BlackBerry PlayBook
Ximad has released a super addicting PlayBook game called Throw the Knife. Even as I was gathering screenshots for this article I couldn't put the game down. The premise is simple. Throw knives, shurikens, battle axes, and even forks at pesky bugs landing on a spinning yellow doll.
The games gets addicting because of the star collecting. There are mosquitoes that fly across the screen. If you hit one, you get 5 stars. With stars, you can buy crazier weapons, wacky outfits, different targets and more health.
The other part of the game that keeps me coming back is the smooth gameplay and accuracy. Knives can be thrown from any angle by swiping from anywhere. The important part is when and where you release your finger or thumb.
Check out more screenshots below and go grab Throw the Knife for your PlayBook. I'm only seeing the free, ad supported version on App World on my PlayBook, so just search for it there. The premium ad free version is $1.99 and you can get it by clicking here.
The picture below is Hit The Target game mode which I don't think compares to Arcade. You only have 3 misses then it's game over.
What's your high score on arcade mode? Think you can beat my 794? Ya, you probably can.

Переслать - Untappd Announces BlackBerry 10 App at Gold SDK Tweetup Party
RIM just had a party on each coast of the US tonight to celebrate the launch of the BlackBerry 10 Gold SDKs. This is a huge event for RIM and a lock down of the functionality so devs can now make production ready apps and launch them. I am still digging through the latest documentation but RIM has really pulled off an amazing feat. I asked Vivek Bhardwaj, head of software portfolio @RIM, what was his favorite BlackBerry 10 feature for developers and he had a great response. He was impressed that BlackBerry 10 SDKs allowed developers to create apps that look better than RIM's own apps. Cool right?
The other big mention was that Untappd will be bringing their beer social network to BlackBerry 10 with a WebWorks app. Kudos to @AlexKinsella on that one! Shout outs to @itssamlowe, @DonnyHalliwell, @jcarty and everyone else who pulled off the NYC party. Was awesome to meet everyone there and hope to see you at the launch party in less than 2 months!

Переслать - ActiveSync Tasks & Memo Sync Confirmed in BlackBerry 10 Documentation
I have been getting quite a few questions from enterprise users about BlackBerry 10's support of syncing notes and tasks. While this is possible to do with the latest versions of ActiveSync practically no vendor has actually implemented it. That is why I somehow glossed over this little tidbit in my last post about Evernote integration. RIM also clearly calls out ActiveSync integration for Notes & Tasks with Exchange in their docs for BlackBerry 10. This means that Exchange users and many other users will be able to sync ALL of their PIM data just like they do on current BlackBerry 7 devices. Awesome right?

Переслать - RIM Highlights Heavy Evernote Integration in BlackBerry 10
Thorsten Heins said that RIM was going to partner heavily with BlackBerry 10 and more signs of that are showing. 89apps was digging through the documentation just released for the Gold BlackBerry 10 SDKs and noticed something interesting. They make heavy mention of Evernote integration in the note taking "Remember" application and N4BB scored some screenshots. Specifically it calls out the four types of notebooks in BlackBerry 10:
- Generic: notebook stored locally on device
- ActiveSyncMemo: synced to your ActiveSync account as a Memo (note)
- ActiveSyncTask: synced to your ActiveSync account as a Task (a todo item)
- Evernote: synced to your Evernote account
Here is how RIM describes it:
On top of that it looks like Evernote will have integration in the global Accounts settings in BlackBerry 10 so there will be full on integration!

Переслать - BB10 L-Series Device Poses For A Camera That Can Focus!
Finally someone figured out how to use that funny little feature called focus when photographing the highly anticipated BlackBerry 10 all touch device. The pictures look amazing! Check them out for yourself below.
Do you think this is the finished build? It looks pretty polished to me and is the same back cover as the partial picture posted on the RIM info site earlier this week. That back cover is pretty dang awesome. Looks like the headphone jack will be on the top. I can't tell if there is some sort of metal component but it looks like mostly a combination of plastic and glass.
If only we could get them to turn this thing on!
What else do you notice? The more I see and hear about BB10, the more desperate I get to own one!
