Переслать - "No Sleep Till BlackBerry 10" Fan Song Shares The Insomnia
I have seen some really bad fan videos over the years but this latest one by LIL 'E titled "No Sleep Till BlackBerry 10" is actually quite catchy. Zach @CrackBerry spotted this fan video that really shows how #BB10Believe is alive and strong heading into the launch. Here is how LIL 'E describes his tribute video:
"No Sleep Till BlackBerry 10" was made to get Team BlackBerry excited for BlackBerry 10, which is releasing January 30th 2013. We are anxious for the release of BlackBerry 10! The song also explains some of the great features of BlackBerry 10. One of the features that I’m most excited about is being able to check all messages in one area. Check the song out and if you’re ready for BlackBerry 10 tweet #NoSleepTillBlackBerry10 . Follow LIL E on Twitter @BTBREPRESENTA.

Переслать - RIM Supports FCC's Smartphone Security Checklist
The FCC created a new website today called the Smartphone Security Checker but in reality it is just a checklist. RIM let us know that they have helped support the FCC in this endeavor and it has some good security best practices. Personally I think the most important one that needs to be highlighted over and over is that users should setup BlackBerry Protect immediately.
Check out the FCC's Smartphone Security Checklist here. It is also available for iOS, Android, and Windows though you can see that none of the other vendors contributed to the security checklist. Shows where their priorities are.

Переслать - RIM's CMO Frank Boulben Talks About BlackBerry Comeback
Frank Boulben took the job of Chief Marketing Officer at RIM during a pretty turbulent time. RIM was in dire need of a CMO for awhile and he seems to be acclimating well. There have been some amazing changes in the RIM marketing and PR arenas but the best is yet to come. Frank Boulben has been working on marketing BlackBerry 10 since he started and his big reveal is coming shortly.
He sat down with Forbes for a video interview on RIM's comeback. Definitely worth watching below in the short or full interview:

Переслать - BlackBerry 7.1 Achieves CESG Security Approval
RIM just received another seal of approval for BlackBerry OS 7.1 today. They just announced CESG Security Approval. This approval enables public sector workers in the U.K. to utilize the newer OS on BlackBerry 7.1. The BlackBerry Enterprise Solution is the only mobile solution approved by CESG to protect data classified up to and including 'Restricted' when configured in accordance with CESG guidance. This is on top of RIM already getting FIPS certification for BlackBerry 10.
Check out the announcement below:
18 December 2012
CESG Approves BlackBerry 7.1 OS for Government Use
London, UK – Research In Motion (RIM) (NASDAQ: RIMM; TSX: RIM) today announced that the BlackBerry® 7.1 operating system has been approved for UK government use by CESG, the National Technical Authority for Information Assurance in the UK. The approval enables public sector workers to utilize the enhanced performance and rich functionality of the latest BlackBerry® smartphones available in the UK.
The BlackBerry® Enterprise Solution from RIM is the only mobile solution approved by CESG to protect data classified up to and including 'Restricted' when configured in accordance with CESG guidance. According to a recent research study from Strategy Analytics*, the BlackBerry Enterprise Solution not only provides the most secure mobile platform but also the lowest total cost of ownership (TCO) for mobile deployments. The study considered typical industry best practices, using the UK government as an example.
Scott Totzke, SVP, BlackBerry Security Group, RIM, said, "As we have seen from the recent Strategy Analytics report, the BlackBerry Enterprise Solution remains unique in that it not only delivers the highest level of security for government customers, but also the lowest total cost of ownership in the industry. It's a compelling proposition that has seen our solution widely deployed across UK public sector organisations, including the NHS, local government bodies, the Ministry of Defence (MoD), most of Central Government and over half of the UK's police forces.
"The CESG approval of the BlackBerry 7.1 OS enables our valued government customers to allow their employees to take advantage of the enhanced features and improved services offered by the latest iteration of the BlackBerry operating system."
The BlackBerry Enterprise Solution has delivered benefits at many levels in public sector organisations, including significant cost savings, greater workforce efficiencies and, in turn, an improved service to citizens. For example, by extending core processes and systems to frontline officers, UK police forces using BlackBerry smartphones have been able to reduce the time officers are required to spend at their desks, enabling them to spend more time policing the streets. Furthermore, a number of police forces are using the BlackBerry smartphone apps for Twitter® and Facebook® to change the way they engage with local communities to deliver enhanced frontline policing.
BlackBerry 7.1 OS smartphones currently available in the UK and covered by the new approval from CESG include the BlackBerry® Bold™ 9900, BlackBerry® Bold™ 9790, BlackBerry® Torch™ 9860, BlackBerry® Torch™ 9810, BlackBerry® Curve™ 9380, BlackBerry® Curve™ 9360, BlackBerry® Curve™ 9320 and Porsche Design P'9981 from BlackBerry smartphones.

Переслать - Animated Image Easily Shows Off BlackBerry 10's Keyboard
A friend of mine pointed out that RIM has at some point in time added a new animated GIF image to their BlackBerry 10 updates website. In just a few seconds of animation it shows off the fluidity of the BlackBerry 10 keyboard. Not really a huge news item but I cannot stop watching it. It is also an easy image to show to people who ask what BlackBerry 10 will bring to the table…

Переслать - No More ActiveSync or Google Sync Support for Gmail
Google did some winter cleaning over the weekend to clear out and it hit some platforms harder than others. For BlackBerry users there really is no big change except for the Google Sync app, which was discontinued in September due to duplicate functionality in BIS, no longer works. For iOS users this is an annoying change since they now need to sync contacts and calendar through IMAP CardDAV and CalDAV. The BlackBerry PlayBook already supports CalDAV and CardDAV for contacts and calendar sync over IMAP and BlackBerry 10 does that and more.
What BlackBerry users should know is that this means BlackBerry 7 and older devices will no longer be able to use the Google Sync app that was discontinued in September. They will continue to be able to use the BIS Google Calendar and Contacts sync just like Google recommends. The only downside to this is no support for multiple calendars. Here is Google's announcement:
- Google Sync was designed to allow access to Google Mail, Calendar and Contacts via the Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync® protocol. With the recent launch of CardDAV, Google now offers similar access via IMAP, CalDAV and CardDAV, making it possible to build a seamless sync experience using open protocols. Starting January 30, 2013, consumers won’t be able to set up new devices using Google Sync; however, existing Google Sync connections will continue to function. Google Sync will continue to be fully supported for Google Apps for Business, Government and Education. Users of those products are unaffected by this announcement.
- In addition to Google Sync, we're discontinuing Google Calendar Sync on December 14, 2012 and Google Sync for Nokia S60 on January 30, 2013. We're also ending service for SyncML, a contacts sync service used by a small number of older mobile devices on January 30, 2013.
I doubt Google decided to kill off Google Sync and ActiveSync support due to lack of use but it seems like they no longer wanted to pay Microsoft for royalties. On top of that ActiveSync has some limitations that hampered Google and other services like having only one mobile number per contact. Still RIM will have all the technologies compatibility and more to support these services covered in BlackBerry 10.
