- Verizon CMO Confirms BlackBerry 10 Will Be Available At Launch
I will believe it when I see it but it looks like Big Red will be getting a BlackBerry 10 model at launch. Verizon's CMO, Tami Erwin, confirmed in an interview with CNET that they will have a BlackBerry 10 device available when RIM launches them in Q1 2013. Erwin said Verizon was all about giving customers choice and don't one to be tied to one or even two operating systems. Hopefully this time Verizon does not let BlackBerrys get stuck in network approval hell and actually releases them on time!

Переслать - S4BB Adds Loads of Content with Free Daily Quote v3.0 Update
S4BB has had their Daily Quote app for awhile now offering up quotes, sayings, proverbs, and thoughts to wrinkle your brain. They let us know that they have released v3.0 of Daily Quote for BlackBerry smartphones with thousands of new content items. You can also setup a notification to remind you to check the app every day. The application also got a nice UI makeover which rounds out one of my previous complaints.

Переслать - GAGmobile 9GAG Client for Your BlackBerry Smartphone
Nathan Campos let us know that he has updated his 9GAG client, GAGmobile, for BlackBerry smartphones. He is also releasing a version for the PlayBook soon but that is still under development. This new update brings GAGmobile to v3.0 with the ability to browse the "Hot", "Trending" and "Voting" sections of 9GAG. It still needs a bit of a visual overhaul but hopefully that is coming.
In case you don't know 9GAG it an image posting site where quite a few meme's start. GAGmobile just makes it easier to view the funny images from 9GAG from your BlackBerry instead of the browser. Check out GAGmobile for $0.99 in App World.

Переслать - S4BB Application Lock Pro Locks Apps With Multiple Presets (Free Single App Locks)
S4BB has jumped into the application locking game with Application Lock Pro. AdN let us know that they also released free smaller apps that only lock a single application like the calendar, contacts, or internet. The cool twist that S4BB added to differentiate Application Lock Pro is presets or profiles. That lets you set specific presets for locking certain apps that you can switch between. For example, you could have one preset for when you leave your phone to charge on your desk and another for when you give your phone to your child to play with.
Features include:
- Ability to lock multiple apps at once
- Easily lock the specified app(s)
- Active presets to allow specific people to use the lock function or to allow specified apps to be locked.
- Set a secure password of your choice (4+ characters)
- Cool sound effects for right and wrong password attempts

Переслать - Dual Camera App Lets You Snap Pictures While Recording Video
Note: Sorry guys but it seems like the app only pretend to be free. You need to pay up after a few days. I’m not a fan of that hidden surprise.
I am not sure why no one thought of this before but Parachute Mobile seems to have figured it out. Their new Dual Camera for BlackBerry app allows you to take still pictures while you are filming video with the app. That is something I have done with my SLR for awhile now but its nice to see it possible to snap a quick picture without pausing your video recording on a BlackBerry. I have not had a chance to fully put this through the paces but it seems to work.

Переслать - Will Cascades Kickstart BlackBerry 10 Development?
I have been waiting for RIM to release Cascades since they first announced the native development for the PlayBook. Cascades is the way developers can create visually appealing AND consistently beautiful BlackBerry 10 apps with ease. To prove this point one of our friends, Keeper, shared a video of what he created (called Photo X) with Cascades in a day. Its a simple photo viewer yet what I found even more impressive was how easy it was for Keeper to develop the app. He has not developed in C/C++ since he learned the basics 11 years ago and just picked it up for this app. Check out the results below:
Desktop Video Link | Mobile Video Link
Let us know if you have been toying with Cascades and if you plan on building something with your skills! I am really waiting to see if Cascades will help lower the bar for entry to visually beautiful BlackBerry 10 apps that are a breeze to develop. Who would have thought a few years ago that BlackBerry development would be this straightforward?

Переслать - Theme Studio 7 Coming Shortly Along With Linux NDK for Cascades
The @BlackBerryDev account has been giving off a wealth of information recently making it hard to keep up with. One of the things I did notice was that RIM responded to @alketbihamad that they are working on a Linux NDK for Cascades development for Linux users. That is scheduled to come out with Beta 3 when it is released this month. There was also some movement on the elusive Theme Builder 7 that has been missing for the last year since BlackBerry 7 launched. RIM told @tw820 that "Theme Studio 7 is en route and we are looking to release ASAP." Hopefully ASAP means this week?
RIM also mentioned that they have updated the flight board (aka roadmap) for the Android Runtime for BlackBerry. I don't really see the changes but it may be worth checking into on the Android Runtime site.

Переслать - T-Mobile Celebrates 10 Years With New Unlimited 4G Data Plans
We told you earlier about T-Mobile launching their unlimited 4G data plans and as of yesterday they are live. They are tying this into the celebration of their 10 years of industry innovation. It is hard to believe they have been around 10 years now since September 2002. T-Mobile Celebrates 10 Years of Innovation With Launch of Unlimited Nationwide 4G Data Plans
From the iconic Sidekick to industry's only national Unlimited Nationwide 4G Data plan,
T-Mobile continues to reinvent the mobile experience
BELLEVUE, Wash. — Sept. 5, 2012 — T-Mobile USA, Inc. marked the 10th anniversary of its T-Mobile brand in the United States by making its new Unlimited Nationwide 4G Data plan available in stores today. The plan underscores T-Mobile's longstanding focus on delivering customer value and service excellence through constant innovation.
"Since our inception, we've always strived to shake up the industry with plans, network capabilities, and innovative products and services for our customers," said Brad Duea, senior vice president, product management, T-Mobile USA. "Today's release of our Unlimited Nationwide 4G Data plan continues our tradition of bold moves that enhance the customer experience and change the way wireless is done."
T-Mobile USA established its nationwide brand in September 2002 and has been quietly innovating ever since, beginning with Sidekick®, the first all-in-one wireless device with an unlimited data plan for consumers. The company is now one of the largest employers and best-kept secrets in the Seattle area, built on a legacy of wireless industry firsts, including these:

- First Wi-Fi Calling Service in U.S. (2007) – Allowed voice calling over Wi-Fi
- First Android phone – T-Mobile G1™ with Google™ (2008) – Kicked off wave of subsequent Android offerings

- First to break from Subsidy Model (2009) – T-Mobile's Even More plans and later Value Plans allow customers to pay for their devices over time or to bring their own devices to T-Mobile
Today marks another first: T-Mobile becomes the only carrier with a nationwide 4G network to offer unlimited nationwide 4G data.Featuring no data caps, no speed limits and no overages, as well as fast, dependable nationwide 4G coverage, T-Mobile's new Unlimited Nationwide 4G Data plan offers the ultimate worry-free experience for data-hungry smartphone customers. The Unlimited Nationwide 4G Data plan is available at T-Mobile retail stores, on http://www.T-Mobile.com/unlimited-data-plan, and through select dealers and national retail stores.
To help customers quickly take full advantage of all the cool things smartphones can do — without limits or overages — T-Mobile customers who activate a new two-year contract on an Unlimited Nationwide 4G Data plan will be able to benefit from a sale on select 4G smartphones, including the HTC One S with $0.00 down payment, after $50 mail-in rebate card.

Переслать - RIM's Latest Patent Is for a Tablet With a Concealed Keyboard
I am not sure if this will ever see the light of day but RIM has an interesting concept with their latest patent filing. N4BB spotted this patent on a "MOBILE DEVICE WITH A CONCEALED KEYBOARD" that RIM applied for in 2011 and was just published. The description details a rotating keyboard that fits flush with the back of a mobile device and hinges into place. Here is how RIM's lawyers describe it:
An electronic device having a concealed keyboard includes a first housing, a second housing rotatably coupled to the first housing, and a concealment cover coupled to a rear of the first housing. The first housing has a coupling edge and two sides that are substantially perpendicular to the coupling edge of the first housing. The second housing has a coupling edge and two sides that are substantially perpendicular to the coupling edge of the second housing. A receiving portion is formed on a rear surface of the first housing and is configured to receive the second housing. When the second housing is in the receiving portion, each respective side of the first housing and the second housing are co-terminal with one another. The concealment cover is exteriorly positioned with respect to the second housing when the second housing is in the receiving portion.
Check out the full patent filing at the USPTO or the additional images below. I think it could be really cool if RIM could find a way to conceal their keyboard inside the housing of the PlayBook to make it a sort of hybrid laptop/tablet. Still other vendors have not done amazingly well with similar hybrid designs.

Переслать - RIM Details $10K Development Commitment & Built for BlackBerry App Program
At the first BlackBerry 10 Jam conference in Orlando Alec Saunders made it clear that RIM was working on a revenue guarantee for developers of solid BlackBerry 10 apps. RIM has dubbed it the $10K Developer Commitment along with another new program that is tied to it called Build for BlackBerry. RIM introduced Built for BlackBerry accessories a bit back for quality approved accessories and now they are doing the same for apps. It allows devs to submit their WebWorks or Native BlackBerry 10 apps for a third party to review. For now that service will be free and lets devs get a "Built for BlackBerry" quality status badge that they can use on App World and anywhere else. The best part is that you just need to submit your app and accept the terms and conditions (not available yet)
Together with Built for BlackBerry is the new 10K Developer Commitment. This commitment is RIM "putting their money where their mouth is." If you submit a BlackBerry 10 App into App World before the launch of BlackBerry 10 (Dates to come) then you are eligible. Then if you independently earn $1,000 in net revenue in App World in 12 months then RIM guarantees you will make $10,000+ or they will make up the difference themselves.
RIM has released some details on the Built for BlackBerry program that I highly recommend reading up on including the criteria. I am sure we will hear more soon though for now there are more details on the DevBlog.

Переслать - eBay for BlackBerry Updated to v2.1.0.7 – No Change Log
I was under the impression that RIM stopped development for their eBay for BlackBerry smartphones to focus on BlackBerry 10 development. If I am not mistaken RIM was using a 3rd party dev house to develop the app which has not really been updated since v2.0 came out of beta last year. Jason let us know that v2.1.0.7 of eBay for BlackBerry has hit App World but sadly carries no change log. This one skipped the Beta Zone too so it should be interesting to see what is new. Let us know if you spot anything.
You can download the latest eBay for BlackBerry smartphones free in App World. Hopefully RIM is working together with eBay for an awesome BlackBerry 10 app.
