- Developer Sounds Off on BlackBerry World & BlackBerry 10 (Macadamian)
One of the developer houses that featured their work at the BlackBerry 10 Jam keynote was Macadamian (a UI design and development studio mainly for enterprise, www.macadamian.com). They are longtime RIM partners and they showed off what they could build on BlackBerry 10 with alpha tools using Cascades in less than 2 weeks. Check out what they built below:

Luis also noticed that their VP of Strategy and Innovation, Matthew Hately, wrote about teams experience at BlackBerry World now that it is over and why he thinks RIM is back with BlackBerry 10. Its promising to see UI designers praising BlackBerry 10 stating that it has an:
Incredible User Experience
The new User Experience of BlackBerry 10 is simply amazing. RIM is really sweating the fine details of the new UI. The transitions are organic and gorgeous. Apple caught everyone unawares when they released iOS, and it’s in the fine details like transitions and scrolling where other platforms like Android don’t measure up – they simply don’t feel as realistic and natural as iOS. The UX and software teams at RIM are clearly making sure that the finer details of the platform feel as good as, and in some cases better than, iOS. I think developers, and the industry, will be really surprised with what you’ll be able to do with BB10 and the new Cascades UI framework. Here’s a link to the part of the keynote where they show off the new UX – see for yourself, and hang on through the keyboard and camera demo.
I won't steal his thunder but it is definitely worth checking out the rest of his comments here on the Macadamian blog.

Переслать - RIM Promises Continued Support for BlackBerry 7
I was going through my notes from BlackBerry World and I came across something interesting that Thorsten Heins mentioned during the press briefing. BlackBerry World has obviously been heavily focused on BlackBerry 10 but one person at the session asked him what about BlackBerry 7 and older devices and where there place was in all of this. Thorsten first of all answered that RIM is committed to future support of BlackBerry 7 and future devices especially for entry level devices in international areas. He reiterated that a great majority, 80%+, of the worlds cell phone users do not yet have smartphones.
Thorsten also commented that RIM has dedicated a team of hundreds of employees in Raleigh, North Carolina to improving and supporting BlackBerry 7. To RIM the BlackBerry 7 OS has reached maturity especially as a smartphone OS. For RIM, BlackBerry 10 and on the PlayBook and soon smartphones allows them to enter the mobile computing space (think cars, entertainment devices, embedded devices, etc…)

Переслать - Must See BlackBerry 10 Messages Flow Video From BlackBerry World Keynote
During the keynote at BlackBerry World we posted the first sneak peak video RIM shared of BlackBerry 10. If you were watching the keynote you may have noticed that RIM actually demoed more on a live BlackBerry 10 Dev Alpha device showing off the "Flow" being built into BlackBerry 10 including "rapid application switching, multitasking, and slide view notifications."
You really need to check this video out to see what it looks like. Personally I am excited because I have been hearing that one of the things that RIM is focusing on in BlackBerry 10 is their core strength of messaging and PIM. I think if they blow those out of the water users will come back in droves.

PS: Did anybody else notice that in the original BlackBerry 10 sneak peak video at the end they wirelessly move the video call from the BlackBerry 10 smartphone to the TV without wires? I wonder if that is actually going to be a feature…

Переслать - RIM Confirms PlayBook Android Player Getting Multi-Tasking & More
We heard during BlackBerry World about some features coming in PlayBook OS 2.1 but now RIM has confirmed the ones related to the PlayBook Android Player publicly. The only quirk is that RIM says they will be coming with BlackBerry 10 so make of that what you will. My favorite is that RIM is allowing Android apps to multitask and run in separate windows like native PlayBook apps. Here is what Matt had to say about the three new features coming:
A feature request we heard from both developer and end user alike was for multi-window support. Applications built for the BlackBerry Runtime for Android Apps will now launch in separate windows, allowing for multitasking and viewing just like regular native BlackBerry 10 apps!
Additionally, we have added API support for Camera and In-App Payments. With these additions, we now support even more potential Android apps and offer an additional way for developers to monetize their applications. In-App Payments will work with user's existing BlackBerry® ID and be processed through BlackBerry App World.
These new features will be available in the BlackBerry 10 Runtime for Android Apps beta, and will be coming as an update to the BlackBerry® PlayBook™ tablet later this summer. More Runtime for Android Apps features will be coming to BlackBerry 10, so stay tuned!
I am excited that this is all coming later this summer. I am not sure if that means the PlayBook is getting BlackBerry 10 this summer or maybe a separate

Переслать - Awesome Super Ninja Skydiving Plus Zombies Game for the PlayBook
When Matthias let us know about Super Ninja Skydiving Plus Zombies in our comments I had to check it out. The smile-worthy title alone was enough to convince me to fork over a dollar to play the game on my PlayBook and I have to say I am impressed. The game has all the elements it needs to hook you including the obvious Ninjas and Zombies along with blood and other things that explode. Check out the trailer of the game to see what I mean:

Переслать - WordPress for PlayBook v2.1 Released With Loads of New Features (Android)
While I am still waiting for a native WordPress app for the PlayBook the Android port is working well. The Automattic team announce on their BlackBerry blog that v2.1 of WordPress for PlayBook has been rolled into App World. This version brings loads of improvements including:
- Comment editing: tap the new 'Edit' button when viewing a comment and you will be taken to a new screen where you can edit the comment information including the name, email, URL, comment text, and status.
- Post Autosave: to better protect your content, the app will now autosave posts you are editing every 60 seconds.
- New Scaled Image Setting: you can now set the width of linked images. Tap 'Settings' and then tap the 'Upload and link to scaled image' checkbox.
Minor changes:
- Small improvements to the UI, most notably the delete post button has been moved to a less prominent spot to prevent accidental taps.
- Reliability improvements.
- Updated translations.
- New app icon.
WordPress.com:
- New WordPress.com Reader: There's an all-new reader in the app that makes it easier than ever to follow your favorite blogs on WordPress.com. We've added a bunch of great new features including simplified navigation between posts and the ability to comment on articles you like.

Переслать - RIM CEO Confirms 4G PlayBook Coming "Later This Year" On Road to BlackBerry 10
During the press session and other confirmations at BlackBerry World we have heard that we will soon be seeing a BlackBerry PlayBook with 4G. I ran into two people at the show who got some time to spend with the devices and they were impressed and it seemed to work smoothly. Thorsten Heins was asked during the press session on what we will be seeing between now and the BlackBerry 10 device launch. They also asked if there would be another PlayBook device launch with the launch of BlackBerry 10.
It was interesting to see that Thorsten Responded that the BlackBerry PlayBook is more of a target into the mobile computing space than the tablet space. (Remember those embedded police cars?) He also confirmed that a 4G BlackBerry PlayBook will be coming to market later this year.
Also of interest was a question Thorsten was asked about the conference being focused on BlackBerry 10 but what about all the talk on enterprise policies and security? Thorsten responded that they were "100% correct there is more to RIM than just the handset business. We are focused on Business and enterprise because that is one of the places where RIM really fits best." to further this goal they have pulled together all the enterprise business divisions under Robin Bienfait, RIM’s CIO, since it was very fragmented and combined them all to ensure focus. Now that he has the focus in place RIM is pushing the throttle further. (he even simulated stepping on the gas) He also confirmed what many of us already know which is the fact that RIM needs BlackBerry 10 to be launched to improve the enterprise platform.
