The guys behind Photo Studio, KVAD Group, has just updated their popular photo app Photo Studio Pro to version 0.9.9.1. With each update, they are making the application more and more worthwhile to get and this update is no exception. This update is available for free for both free and pro edition.
With this update, they have also released the PhotoStudio PRO edition for the BlackBerry PlayBook.
New features include:- Color Splash is released for devices with touch screen

I’m not sure if they will extend the pro edition for PlayBook to those who have purchased the PhotoStudio directly from them for the BlackBerry Smartphone or from the AppWorld yet as I’m not seeing this on my end. Let us know if you see anything on this!

Переслать - Twitter for BlackBerry v3.1.0.17 Gold Candidate Released in Beta Zone
RIM has really been pushing out the Beta Zone releases for Twitter and Facebook for BlackBerry. The latest brings Twitter for BlackBerry to v3.1.0.17 in the Beta Zone from the previous v3.1.0.13. This version is the Gold Candidate which means it will probably be the release version if all goes well. RIM was even kind enough to offer up the change log for the release which includes:
- Updated Twitter Bird
- Sharing Tweets over email fails to keep links shortened
- Reply Hotkey not working and menu item missing on the Tweet Details screen if the Tweet is Retweeted by you
- When replying to a Tweet with a location, location call out pops up over top of the text in the Tweet
- Main account was deleted/logged out from app after experiencing network issues
- Spell check dialog appears as well as the suggested usernames in Sign Up screen

Переслать - RIM to hold Annual General Meeting on July 10
The Annual General Meeting of Shareholders of RIM will be held at 10:00 AM EDT on July 10, 2012 in Waterloo, Ontario.
It should be interesting to see what angle they take in this meeting, in light of the negative feedback caused by last week’s conference call and the stock dive which it seemingly caused.
You’ll be able to listen to the live webcast of the meeting here. For more information, click here.

Переслать - RIM's New Executive VP of Global Sales Gives Pragmatic Interview
Kevin over @CrackBerry has been helping RIM with their efforts in getting RIM's side of the story out today. RIM has been hitting the media hard with interviews and an Op-Ed from their CEO and now Kevin just posted up an audio interview with RIM's new Executive VP of Global Sales. Rick Costanzo (@rickcostanzo) just took over the job held by Patrick Spence previously and has been with RIM since 1999 right before BlackBerry launched. He had some really pragmatic things to say including his answer to what he thinks about the BlackBerry 10 launch date delay:
"We have one opportunity to get BlackBerry 10 launched properly, and we’re going to get it right. This is not just a handset OS. There’s a car component to this. There is an embedded component. This is a platform and we’re putting the plumbing in place to connect to cars and OEM. You gotta get it right and it’s hugely complex. We’ll come out extremely strong next year a with a fully-baked product."
I would highly recommend heading over the CrackBerry and listening to the whole audio interview. Let us know if you spot any more press spots RIM hit today.

Переслать - Foursquare for BlackBerry v5.0.1 Packs Bug Fixes
After major app updates many devs find themselves releasing a follow up bug fix update. That is exactly what Foursquare is doing with their latest v5.0.1 release for BlackBerry smartphones. The new update includes bug fixes for the recently updated v5.0 which recently brought a new UI and GPS improvements. It also includes a new plugin support but I am not sure what that means.

RIM has just rolled out another incremental update to their official BlackBerry instant messenger clients. That brings Google Talk, Yahoo Messenger, and Windows Live Messenger to v3.0.0.23 from the previous 3.0.0.21. Let us know if you notice anything new or spot a change log. I am hoping this gets me some better Google Talk reliability.

Переслать - RIM to Offer More Opportunities for BlackBerry 10 Dev Alphas This Summer
RIM's announcement last week that BlackBerry 10s launch was pushed off to Q1 2013 has left many questions up in the air. One of the more interesting ones was posed by Mikel (@mikelcal) who asked Alec Saunders of RIM if the delay would mean more opportunities to qualify for the BlackBerry 10 Dev Alpha. We know RIM had a limited run of the devices but Alec responded That RIM will have more later in the summer and to watch out for more promotions.
The BlackBerry 10 devices are the best bet for testing out BlackBerry 10 apps especially ones that use Cascades. It should be interesting to see what Alec Saunders has planned until Q1 including BlackBerry Jam Americas in September. Keep your eyes peeled on BerryReview as we cover any opportunities for devs to get their own Dev Alpha.
Thanks Tashanna for sending this one in via BBOS

Переслать - Test Your Rock Flinging Skills with Catapult for BlackBerry Smartphones
I have had Catapult on my BlackBerry for ages which is why I was surprised when Pete pointed out to me that we have never featured it. Catapult is one of those games that tries to replicate the Angry Birds style pull back and fling games. The goal is to try to see how far you can launch a rock while hitting targets, hitting springboards, and avoiding sand pits. You can then submit your score online to see how you stack up with the competition. Catapult is not the most intensive of games but it definitely has you coming back.

Переслать - Thorsten Heins Op-Ed Promises "RIM Will Empower People Like Never Before"
RIM is really on a media blitz today. Brian pointed out the latest development to me with RIM's current CEO, Thorsten Heins, writing an Op-Ed for The Globe and Mail. I do not think RIM has ever done that but the message Heins puts across is a great read. I don't want to ruin it for you so head on over to The Globe and Mail and check it out for yourself.
I think Heins did a great job of passing his message along about how RIM is not dead and will come back fighting. He also hints that there is more coming that they have not announced yet. There is also a definite focus on the many "recommendations" analysts have been trying to label RIM with including claims that they were disconnected as a Canadian company or should cut up the company and sell out. Heins summarized most of his message in these two paragraphs:
As we prepare to launch our new mobile platform, BlackBerry 10, in the first quarter of next year, we expect to empower people as never before. BlackBerry 10 will connect users not just to each other, but to the embedded systems that run constantly in the background of everyday life – from parking meters and car computers to credit card machines and ticket counters.
Those are big promises, I know; and some doubt whether RIM can pull it off. I am the first to admit that RIM has missed on important trends in the smart-phone industry – especially in the consumer domain, focusing on its core value system for successful products and services. We are working diligently on BlackBerry 10 in order to provide a compelling experience for our loyal enterprise customers and consumers. While we are in a very competitive and constantly changing market, customers benefit from this competition and continued innovation.

Переслать - Thorsten Heins Says RIM is In Transition in Recent Interview
Thorsten Heins gave an interview on CBC Metro Morning today with the headliner quote being that "there’s nothing wrong with the company as it exists right now." He qualified that by telling them “I’m not talking about the company as I, kind of, took it over six months ago. I’m talking about the company (in the) state it’s in right now.” He said RIM has a serious challenge ahead of them to regain market share in the United States but denies that RIM is in a "Death Spiral." As Heins has stressed before, BlackBerry 10 is more than a product launch and "the company is not ignoring the world out there, nor is it in a death spiral."
Heins then goes on to describe that RIM is very challenged at the moment specifically in the US market during their BlackBerry 10 transition. Its good to see that he is still strongly positive that RIM will emerge successfully from the BlackBerry 10 transition.
Check out the more details from the interview on CBC.ca and let us know what you think! They also have a video interview with Andrew Macleod, RIM’s managing director for Canada, explaining ”why the company is excited for the future and ready to fight.”
Thanks Brian for the tip.

Переслать - New Phazer BlackBerry 7 Theme from Hedone Designs
Long time premium BlackBerry theme developer Hedone Designs just released a new theme, Phazer, for BlackBerry 7 devices including OS 6 devices. This theme builds on the basic BlackBerry 7 theme and is just plain slick with a small footprint on your device so it should be just as fast as the default theme. Hedone also let us know that they have launched a new website in conjunction with Phazers launch since their previous 3 year old website had needed an overhaul and better rating system.

Переслать - Free Recycle Bin Restores Deleted Email, Contacts, Tasks, Memos, & Events
There have been a few apps over the years that allow you to restore Email, Contacts, Tasks, Memos, & Events that you have deleted since the app was installed. The latest is a free one aptly called Recycle Bin which stores backup copies of deleted Email, Contacts, Tasks, Memos, & Events so that you can later recover them. You can then clean out your Recycle Bin every once in awhile. The only catch is that emails are restored as drafts due to a technical limitation but other than that it works like a charm
