- Review: Seidio Innocell Extended Battery For the BlackBerry 9900
With the launch of the BlackBerry 9900 RIM took a step back in battery life performance. The battery on the 9700 was exceptional, though it was not 4G the battery and device were thicker, but with the 9900 RIM slimed down the device along with the battery. That is where Seidio is picking up the slack with the Innocell Extended battery. The extended battery packs quite a bit of extra power! The specifications on the new battery are below:
- Comes with a black replacement door featuring Seidio’s signature soft touch coating
- Keeps your phone charged and ready to go, even with heavy phone and data usage
- Compatible with Bold 9900/9930 without a cloning kit — Works right out of the box
- Capacity: 3000mAh
- Compatible with Seidio Spring-Clip Holster
At my current office, the building is one of those old brick buildings that makes it practically impossible to get a signal making my cellphone work 100 times harder to get a signal. With the regular battery my device on any given day would run out of juice within a few hours, and most of the time it doesn't make it through the day without having to charge. The guys over at Seidio sent me their recent addition to their line of products, the Innocell Externded battery. The battery does not make your device look better but it does delivering a good source of power for those heavy users or in my case, making the battery last me through the day.
First use:
The manufacturer recommends charging the battery to full power for a few times when you first use it, and letting it charge for another five hours after, this gives you max potential.
Note from Seidio: In order to obtain the full capacity of your Seidio battery, we highly recommend that you leave the battery/your phone on the charger for an additional 2-3 hours after the charging indicator turns green or the battery status shows full. Continue for 5-6 charging cycles for optimal performance.
The Good
The extended battery even with my weak signal it last almost a day and a half, and keeps me from having to worry about my phone dying early during the day. The battery is perfect for those times when you are traveling, or at an event. The back cover is easy to clip on the device, and covers the back of the phone without any play, making a tight fit. The battery charges fast, and with the PlayBook charge the battery charges in about the same times as the old battery. One example: in 10 minutes it charged my battery about 10-15 percent.
The Bad
The extended battery does add a bit of weight, and it sticks out in the back and NFC does not work because you cannot use the same back cover the device comes with.
Conclusion
The battery delivers a much needed power boost compared to the OEM battery. If you are in need of a longer power supply this is probably the best option out there. The battery is a bit pricey but fair enough for what you get. The original BlackBerry OEM battery cost $50.00 from shopblackberry or around $30 from other websites.
Purchase the Seidio extended battery for $69.99 at the following link from Seidio

Переслать - Free TagMnE MP3 ID3 Tag Editor Can Change & Add Song Info
@mne_GK let us know about his app, TagMnE, that allows you to edit the information stored in an MP3 file. This information is called the ID3 tag and it is what your BlackBerry uses to show you details like the name, artist, and more about a song. Now with TagMnE you can easily edit that information from your BlackBerry smartphone. This lets you get rid of all the "Unknown artist" songs and such in an easy to use interface. In other words you can convert what you see in the image on the left below to the one on the right:

Переслать - Alec Saunders Responds to Survey Claiming RIM is Losing Developer Interest
We avoided mentioning this survey earlier today due to the traditional "lies, damn lies, and statistics!" problem I have with surveys that lack any details of how they were preformed. The latest one from Baird Equity Research (via AllThingsD) questioned 4,300 developers interest and long term outlook for different platforms. Their results of their survey point to RIM losing mind share with developers for both current generation BlackBerry and BlackBerry 10 development.
RIM's head of developer relations, Alec Saunders, has thankfully taken the stand on the official BlackBerry developer blog to refute these findings. He throws around details about RIM's vendors in App World growing 157% and PlayBook apps growing by 15,000 since January 1st of this year. He also showed that BlackBerry 10 Jam World Tour has been at capacity or oversold in many of the 23 cities around the world.
Check out the full details here from Alec Saunders. Personally I know devs are really excited about BlackBerry 10 especially with the greatly improved toolset and access they are getting from RIM. If you are a dev let us know what you have been working on!

Переслать - RIM's CEO & CMO Share More BlackBerry 10 Launch Details in Latest Interview
Note to self: Next time I see Thorsten Heins I need to hit him up for some BlackBerry fire decals for my Vespa. With that said Kevin over @CrackBerry made the trip to RIM's headquarters during their annual shareholders meeting this week. While there he sat down with RIM's new CMO Frank Boulben and ran into RIM's CEO Thorsten Heins. It was great to have someone asking the right questions in an interview which resulted in some more details on the launch of BlackBerry 10 and the delay to Q1 of 2013.
Here are some of the highlights:
- The full touchscreen and QWERTY keyboard BlackBerry 10 models will be announced and marketed at the same time
- Heins said the main reason for the delay was to maintain platform stability while integrating new code. This meant consistency between the different components and things like developer API structure
- Heins confirmed that the delay was a 6-8 week shift for the full touchscreen BlackBerry 10 phone
- The QWERTY keyboard BlackBerry 10 device was not delayed by this decision
- full QWERTY BlackBerry 10 model is coming immediately after the full touch model
- Lab Entry and Technical acceptance should start in Q4
- Heins is very confident that BlackBerry 10 will launch in January or February
- Boulben is confident that it is better to launch in Q1 2013 than "no mans land 2012"
- Boulben already has a fully integrated and focused marketing campaign for BlackBerry 10 that he has already presented to the board
I highly recommend heading over to CrackBerry and catching the whole interview. Boulben explains the main reason that the end of the year would not have worked for RIM since the planning would have to be ready for September to roll out correctly. Carriers even reached out to Boulben and told him to get more attention in Q1. Boulben also explains why RIM is hitting the full touchscreen before the QWERTY model due to that being exactly where RIM is feeling the most pain.

Переслать - Caveman HD (Lemmings Clone) Comes to the PlayBook
Awhile back we told you about Aaron Ardiri who joined RIM as a Senior Technical Evangelist. He wrote up a detailed recount of how he ported one of his games, Cronk, that he created as an independent developer to the PlayBook. Now Ardiri's development company, Mobile1Up, has released a second game for the PlayBook called Caveman HD. The game will bring back memories of playing "Lemmings" back in the day. The gameplay is extremely similar with Climbers, Exploders, Builders, and more.

Переслать - Easily Jot Down Expenses and Export them to CSV With MoneyMind
K2 Mobile mentioned their new app MoneyMind in the forums and it caught my attention. I have been using memopad and other solutions for quickly jotting down expenses and then recording them when I get back to the office. MoneyMind hopes to simplify that with a bare bones expense manager for BlackBerry smartphones. It simply lets you jot down your expenses in teh app and it will present the details to you. You can then generate expense reports to send out via CSV which is convenient.
Features include:
- Log your expenses by defining Categories, costs and remarks
- Maintain your Categories by defining their names and descriptions,
- Generate expenses reports and save them to CSV files,
- Multilanguage support: English, Polish, German, French, Spanish and Italian
- Create backup of expenses and Categories.
You can find MoneyMind for $0.99 in App World

Переслать - BlackBerry Dev Alpha Devices To Get Update Next Week!
Here’s some interesting news that we are hearing! Wayne over in the BlackBerry Beta Zone forums just told us know that an update for the BB10 Developer Alpha devices should be available next week. I wonder what this will add o!
According to them:
The good news is that the new Desktop Software 7.1 build should be ready anytime now and developers have implemented fixtures to the software loading on your Alpha devices.
The bad news is the new Alpha build for your devices won't be ready till next week (it is handled by another team) so in the meantime it will still say "no updates available".You can read the full discussion here: https://beta.webapps.blackberry.com/threads/view/10839?pg=0
We know that the internal builds of BB10 are up to around 10.0.8, already have (no not a rumour) to have a lot of features working that aren't currently available for the Dev Alpha. But, hopefully this update will bring some additional enhanced functionality and stability to the Dev Alpha.
Those lucky developers who have the Developer Alpha device, do keep your hands on the check for update button for the release to be released! Let us know what you think!!
