- Two New Retail Concept Videos From the BlackBerry Enterprising Minds
Awhile back the BlackBerry Innovation forum released some concept videos of how RIM would imagine future technology. While RIM never really discussed them they were quickly pulled. Now Lucas @N4BB spotted two new videos from the BlackBerry Enterprising Minds Innovation Forums dated in 2011. They were released on the BlackBerryDE YouTube channel and are in German so I am not sure exactly what their audience is.

Переслать - Free Think Square Dots and Boxes Game for the PlayBook
I am not sure how many of you remember playing Dots & Boxes (Wikipedia) back on paper back in the day but its a true classic. Mobidream released the game free for the PlayBook allowing you to play against the computer. In case you don't know the rules the idea is that you earn points by completing the fourth side of a square. Each turn you get to place one line between the dots. When you complete a square with your line you get another turn until no more squares remain.

Переслать - Take Solitaire On The Go With Spider from SolverLabs
Jen let us know that SolverLabs has a really good implementation of Spider and Solitaire (Klondike) for BlackBerry smartphones called Spider. The game allows you to play both of these hugely popular card games. I remember Magmic used to have Spider game back in the day that I used to be addicted to but the SolverLabs version seems to have better controls. They have also thrown in tweaks to increase the chances of actually finishing the game along with other useful additions.
Check out Spider for $1.99 in App World and let us know what you think. I just wish they had a free trial for others to try out.

Переслать - Mobile Spy v6.0 Introduces BlackBerry Social Media Monitoring and App Blocking
We mentioned Mobile Spy v4 awhile back in 2010 when it started offering some serious mobile spyware for parents and employers. They let us know that they have continued their efforts to keep children and employer information safe with the release of Mobile Spy v6. This version adds social media monitoring and app blocking to Mobile Spy. It also continues to silently record user activity of children or employees to be viewed online including SMS, GPS, call info, photos taken, etc. It now can also view conversations which happen in Facebook Messenger, WhatsApp Messenger, BlackBerry Messenger, BlackBerry PIN Messenger, GTalk, Twitter and others.
If you aren't creeped out yet the app also lets you view a list of applications installed to the BlackBerry and forcibly block any app remotely. They are also able to record Gmail App email messages and YouTube videos played along with how long a child or employee spends using each app. Last but not least the app can be uninstalled remotely.
If this big brother style monitoring sounds exactly like what you are looking for then check out more info at www.mobile-spy.com. They are also available on five other platforms with similar features.

Переслать - Pacemaker DJ PlayBook App Launching June 14th
While at BlackBerry World RIM showed off the awesome Pacemaker app for DJ's. The app allows you to mix, sync, and scratch music on the PlayBook along with applying effects, loop, and much more. This is essentially a much improved version of the original Pacemaker hardware DJ tool. We had the chance to see a preview at BlackBerry World but check out the video below for a refresher. We will definitely let you know when Pacemaker hits App World on June 14th. BBin noticed that Pacemaker has confirmed their Summer release to be June 10th so save up your pennies!

Переслать - BlackBerry 10 Beta HTML5 Tests Smoke the Competition
We have mentioned RIM's dedication to HTML5 previously but the results are really starting to shine in BlackBerry 10. I have been using the BlackBerry 10 Alpha browser along with the new PlayBook beta browser and from a web developers perspective they are becoming ideal environments for apps. David pointed out to us that HTML5Test.com has updated their result set to include BlackBerry 10 beta tests and the results are very impressive.
The original PlayBook OS 1.0 scored 285+9 bonus points followed by PlayBook OS 2.0 which is the current tablet leader at 373+9. Now the development and beta category is also dominated by RIM with PlayBook OS 2.1 scoring 393+10 and BlackBerry 10 scoring a whopping 447+10. Just to give you an idea that means BlackBerry 10 tops all current, development, or beta browsers for HTML5. Check out the full smartphone and tablet rankings for yourself.
Not to shabby for the company that used to be known for its Low-Fi mobile browsing experience… Kudos to the Torch team. We cannot wait to see what you have in store for the browser chrome redesign in BlackBerry 10.

Переслать - Twimbow BlackBerry 10 Twitter Client Will Be Available at Launch
Twimbow has made a big announcement of the fact that their Twitter client will be coming to BlackBerry 10 devices on the first day they launch. This is a nice win for RIM since currently Twimbow is web based and they highlight why they chose launching on BlackBerry 10 first over iOS and Android. They shared exactly why they made that decision including:
- BlackBerry 10 is the most open OS available for smartphones, way more than Android (and capable of running Android apps as well). The set of tools developers can use is incredible and you can basically port any app to that OS very easily.
- HTML5 performance: as many tests already confirmed, HTML5 performance on BlackBerry 10 is far superior than iOS or Android. It is actually outstanding. Given that Twimbow is a rich HTML5 app, porting it to BB10 is very easy and can offer incredible performances to our users
- BB10 is capable of running an HTML5 app as a native app, with a deep integration with the OS (notifications, BBM integration, UI etc.) and taking advantage of the real multi-tasking capabilities of the BB10 OS, something not available in other smartphones.
- the opportunity to be in the BB App World for the BB10 launch is huge, so we want to be there
- some of the countries that are very important for Twimbow are historically very important for BlackBerry as well. An example?Indonesia, #2 country in terms of Twimbow registered users and now #1 in terms of daily users.

Переслать - Free Context Cube 3D Beta Combines Data From Social Networks and More
Prajith let us know about his first BlackBerry PlayBook app from their 2 man team called Context Cube 3D which is currently in beta form. The app is a WebWorks app that displays data from your social networks alongside your PlayBooks pictures and other media in one app. The app aggregates your latest news from Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn and gives you stats like the admirer quotient or FB check-ins.
All in all it is a pretty impressive beta with some rough edges that is receiving constant updates. Check out Context Cube 3D Beta free in App World and let us know what you think. Переслать - Ford Sync AppLink Coming to Asia Starting With Ford Focus in Taiwan
Ford is bringing their Sync AppLink technology to Asia starting with the Ford Focus in Taiwan. In case you are not familiar with it Ford Sync AppLink is powered by Microsoft and offers connectivity between your car and your BlackBerry apps over Bluetooth. This allows developers to customize their apps to be controlled by SYNC using your voice. Ford announced at Computex 2012 in Taipei that starting with the new Ford Focus in Taiwan the system will have voice recognition in English and Mandarin with 150 voice commands in either language.
Check out the details in the two press releases below. I wonder if developers internationally will update their apps to support Sync since most apps so far are US only.
Ford Announces SYNC AppLink Coming to Asia, Giving Customers Voice Control of Smart Phone Apps
· Ford customers in Asia will be able to access and operate smart phone apps by voice with the introduction of SYNC AppLink to Ford vehicles
· AppLink will be available to Ford customers as part of the SYNC voice-activated in-car connectivity system
· Ford seeking partners in local markets and globally to work on making existing smart phone apps SYNC AppLink-compatible
TAIPEI, Taiwan, June 4, 2012 – Ford Motor Company today announced that AppLink, a feature which gives drivers voice control of smart phone apps, will be introduced in markets across Asia Pacific and Africa as part of its voice-activated in-car connectivity system SYNC.
Ed Pleet, Director, Connected Services, Ford Asia Pacific and Africa, and Europe, revealed the latest innovation from Ford at Computex 2012, in Taipei.
"AppLink is an exciting addition to our class-leading SYNC system, giving Ford customers access to even more services via voice control," said Pleet.
"We will continue to work closely with leading developers and companies in local markets and around the world to make existing apps compatible with SYNC AppLink and provide the best services for our customers," he said.
AppLink is a feature of SYNC, and also the only system in the auto industry that can control smartphone apps via voice control. AppLink can access mobile apps on Android, BlackBerry, and iOS smartphones.
AppLink currently enables customers in the U.S. to access leading apps including:
• TuneIn radio – offering access to over 50,000 radio stations around the world
• Stitcher – an app for streamlining radio shows and podcasts directly from smart phones
• Pandora – personalized internet radio service
• OpenBeak – allows users to have Twitter updates read out to them
• iHeartRadio – delivers everything listeners want in one free, fully-integrated service: live broadcast and digital-only radio stations, plus user-created Custom Stations
• NPR News – the latest from NPR (National Public Radio), including newscasts, station streams from around the country, favourite public radio programs, coverage organised by topics, and the ability to create custom playlists
• SYNC Destinations – a free app that delivers quick, on-the-go access to the latest traffic reports, travel times and traffic forecasts. Ford owners also can use the app to easily send future destinations from their phone to their car for simple, voice-controlled navigation on the road
• Slacker Radio – Listen to over 150 expert-programmed, personalized radio stations, featuring music, ESPN Radio, ABC News, Comedy and more!
• Scout by Telenav – a daily personal navigator that allows drivers to easily and efficiently navigate their commutes, run errands, and discover places around them
During Computex 2012, Ford will demonstrate some of the features of AppLink, including TuneIn Radio. It will also showcase the efforts from a 24-hour "Facebook Hackathon" earlier this year where Ford and Facebook engineers got together to find ways to socialize the car, for example, by searching for restaurants that a friend has "liked," or automatically checking in to your location once you park your car. Details of the event can be found at: http://social.ford.com/our-articles/technologies/infotainment/what-if-your-facebook-friends-picked-your-driving-tunes
SYNC AppLink will deliver similar functionality and benefits to SYNC customers in Asia that it already does for Ford customers in North America, where it is currently available on 10 Ford vehicle models.
Ford aims to deliver an integrated experience with smartphone applications and the vehicle including app control through voice and vehicle switches as well as the ability for the app to display information to the vehicle's display. This integration occurs through Ford's renowned Software Development Kit (SDK) that allows smartphone app developers to modify existing apps to work hands-free using voice recognition through SYNC.
The SDK release has helped Ford to forge a more open and collaborative bond with the wireless, consumer electronics and app developer communities to create a safer and smarter in-car connectivity experience that leverages the mobile devices customers own and love.
Developers can contact Ford via its SYNC Developer website (www.syncmyride.com/developer).

Переслать - SanDisk 32GB microSDHC Cards Now Less than $20 @Amazon
If you have not packed up your BlackBerry smartphone with a 32GB microSDHC card then you really should jump on one of these deals. While RIM has not stated if future BlackBerry 10 devices will have MicroSDHC slots the PlayBook currently does not. That is why it is nice that you don't have to break the bank to pick up a Class 4 SanDisk MicroSDHC card at Amazon for less than $20. If you check out the reviews on Amazon you will see that readers have seen that the speeds on this Class 4 card rival some Class 10 cards in some regards (writing small or medium files and reading all files is similar or better than some class 10 cards).
Check out the SanDisk 32GB MicroSDHC Class 4 card on Amazon. If you add another $5 item (MicroUSB Charger anyone?) then you can get free shipping. Let us know if you spot a better deal. I already picked one of these up.

Переслать - Wise Tasks GTD BlackBerry Smartphone App With Geofencing
Derik pointed out a thread on our forums where Tuggy introduced Wise Tasks, a no nonsense Getting Things Done app with some cool features. It offers the basic integration with tasks along with the address book and memopad. What is very interesting is that it introduces geofencing and GeoContexts. That means you can setup GeoContexts based on coordinates (Both GPS or Cell Tower location) and a radius of influence. In plain English think of "Things I need to do in this location" instead of your whole task list.
You can check out the Wise Tasks website for more detailed information or pick up the full version for $1.99 in App World. There is also a free trial version with a limitation of one project and one geocontext for you to try it out.
