Переслать - Viira GTD App v4.0 Released With Updated UI and Better Integration
KartaMobile has once again upped the bar with their popular GTD (Getting Things Done) app Viira with an update to v4.0. This new update brings a brand new interface and integrates even closer with the native apps. You can now set multiple contexts, contact tasks view next actions, memo tasks, and a new dashboard. The full change log includes:
- Contact tasks. You can now organize your communications, tasks and commitments with your contacts – and add a touch of CRM to your GTD system. Creating a task based on a contact is easy – just select a contact in your Contacts application and select Create Viira Task from the menu. Contact tasks maintain a link to the original contact making it easy to call, email and follow-up.
- Next Actions View. Next Actions are a core concept in Getting Things Done and Viira helps you manage those with ease. The new Next Actions view displays all tasks that have been marked as next actions. To help you focus on what is actionable first, next actions also appear specially marked and are automatically displayed at the top of any list.
- Multiple contexs. Any Viira task can now be tagged with multiple contexts – as many as you want. This powerful feature will allow you to file and organize a task in multiple filing "buckets" and make it easier to find the task when it's time to find the next action that needs to be completed.
- Memo tasks. Incorporate existing notes to your GTD system by creating tasks based on your notes and memos. Once created, a memo task will hold a link to the original memo making it easy to view it by clicking on View Memo.
- Dashboard. The Viira dashboard is your new organization control center and provides you with one-click access to the major areas within Viira.
- Email Tasks integration. Email tasks created with Viira 4 maintain a link to the original email making it easy to view the email as well as to reply and forward it.
- Two-way task sync. Viira now syncs with your native Tasks app: every task created in Viira gets added to your native tasks and any task entered in your Tasks app is added to your Viira In-Basket for further assignment. You can now sync your tasks to any cloud sync provider such as Google Tasks.
- Data export/import to/from SD Card. We have made it easier to backup your Viira data or move it to a new or replacement BlackBerry device. Starting with Viira 4 you can importa and export all your Viira data to and from your SD Card. The new feature is accessible from the Settings screen.
- And more! We have added a number of other productivity and convenience enhancements. For example, completed tasks now automatically get moved at the bottom of any task lists while task marked as next actions always go to the top.
Check out the full announcement here. Viira v4.0 is available from App World or from their website with a 14 day trial for you to kick the tires. Owners of Viira 2 and 3 can grab the update for $19.99.

Переслать - New Theme Builder with BlackBerry 7 Support Coming Soon?
Matt over at BlackBerry Cool has just posted an interesting article. He is stating that they have received a tip from one of their members saying that a theme builder for BlackBerry 7 devices will be dropping in early summer. Now because this is only a tip, we can take this as a rumour. It would still be nice to give some of the developers more freedom, especially when dealing with ribbons and panels.

Переслать - MorphWiz-Play Turns Your PlayBook Into a Awesome Instrument!
@AlexKinsella let us know that the awesome MorphWiz-Play app has come to the PlayBook. The best way I can think of describing the app is a futuristic synthesizer that will really stick with you. You can choose from the 30 custom presets and play around with them yourself with the multitouch interface. Here is how they describe the app:
MorphWiz, the brain child of Dream Theater keyboardist, Jordan Rudess, and award-winning developer, Kevin Chartier, took the music app business by storm, winning Billboard’s Best Music Creation App, the Best App Ever award for Best Music App, and an Electronic Musician Editor’s choice award. Jordan uses MorphWiz on stage and in the studio with his prog-metal band, Dream Theater. MorphWiz-Play takes the deep synthesis and immersive visuals of MorphWiz and packages it into 30 custom presets programmed personally by the Wizard himself, Jordan Rudess.
Check out how the app works in this demo video:
Desktop Video Link | Mobile Video Link
There are presets for:
- Dream Machine – Slide through dreamy whole tone scales as the MorphWiz galaxy spins around your visual waveform!
- Axis Of Love – Get physical with your device and move it all around to add cool FM synthesis and special FX to your sound.
- Morphtronics – become immersed in an expressive melodic world where the sound echoes all around you.
- Rush Analog – The classic analog filter sweep comes alive in this patch which we dedicate to the spirit of RUSH!
- Morph Talker – Let MorphWiz do the talking and do watch your language as you slide around on the playing surface!
- The Spirit Carries On – There is nothing like expressing a beautiful melody on MorphWiz and this patch i personally use to enjoy playing our Dream Theater song, entitled “Sprit Carries On.”
- C Blues Tilt – We provide the right scale and the sounds so all you do is have to rock out and remember to move your device around to bring out the cool raspy blues tones! Try turning off the Lock Pitch switch as well to get the slippery bends that you need to get deep into the Blues!
You can find MorphWiz in App World for $1.99 or read more about it here

Переслать - Free Advanced OS & LED Utility v12 Released with Contacts Manager & More
One of our favorite free BlackBerry utilities just got a nice update to v12.0.3 this weekend. We have mentioned the app a few times and it keeps on getting better thanks to Sultan Al Sooz and the price remains totally free. This updates main new feature is a Contacts Manager that allows you to export your contacts to a spreadsheet to be imported into Gmail or Outlook. You can also merge duplicate contacts, backup and restore, and move contacts to the default list. The crazy part is that is just one of the features in the app.
The new v12 includes the following improvements:
- Added Contacts Manager feature to export to (excel & Gmail & MS outlook), merge duplicate contacts, backup and restore all contacts with their photos, move contacts to default list.
- Added homescreen multi-wallpaper feature, to change your background picture everytime you turn the screen on.
- Redesigned add new numbers feature much easier (no more copy and paste).
- Added convenience side key action in ilaunch custom actions, for launching multiple custom actions at once.
- You can now change the spacebar homescreen shortcut key to other keys.
- App now supports all contact lists, not just the default one.
- Improved Custom App LED capturing by providing more information when customizing new apps LED. 8- LED Mode will always be mutli-led.
- Added option to send app backup to email account directly after taking a backup.
Actually, there are few more small changes, like battery and speed improvements as well, bbm popup has been optimized and small bug fixes, enjoy
If you are a hardcore BlackBerry user I highly recommend the update though there are features in Advanced OS & LED that all users will appreciate. You can pick up Advanced OS and LED free in App World. Also keep tabs on the latest updates at www.facebook.com/AdvanceOS.

Переслать - LinBerry Hopes to Make it Easier to Use Your BlackBerry on Linux
Over the years Barry by NetDirect has been my go to solution for using my BlackBerry with Linux. It was worth it just for charging your BlackBerry at a faster rate. Now it seems like there is another alternative called LinBerry that I am guessing is based off Barry but makes things a little bit easier to get off the ground. Michelle @CrackBerry noticed that the LinBerry project has come out of beta since its alpha launch in 2010 and allows you to perform a backup of your device and allowing you to do things live view, edit, and delete contacts. It also extracts cod files and performs other functions.
Check out LinBerry here (Google Translate) or check out Barry and our previous coverage.
RIM has been making a much bigger effort with QNX, PlayBook, and BlackBerry 10 to support Linux developers so hopefully in the future they will also support BlackBerry Linux consumers…

Переслать - RIM Posts Documentation for Unreleased BIS 4.2
It seems like RIM may have shown its hand early with the release of BIS 4.2. The previous BIS (BlackBerry Internet Service) 4.1 release added a few BlackBerry 7 specific features but we have yet to learn what v4.2 adds. The documentation sadly does not include the release notes so we do not know what is actually improved in v4.2 but feel free to speculate in the comments!
Check out the documentation here at BlackBerry.com

Переслать - Free MagicBerry v3.5 Adds Support for Reading .BBB BlackBerry Backup Files
MagicBerry has long been the best tool for parsing and reading BlackBerry backup files. The problem is when RIM started moving from .IPD files to .BBB files they could no longer be opened with MagicBerry. Now it seems like MagicBerry's developer, Ashraf M. Awwad, has reverse engineered the .BBB format and we are back in business. You can now extract things like contacts, calendar, media files, phone logs, service books, and more from .BBB backup files.
Check out the latest MagicBerry free from Awwad's website. Make sure to donate if you find the app useful! Thanks Mil for the tip via LaBlackBerry.

Переслать - Updated: BlackBerry App World v3.1.2.32 Released
Update: Sorry all I confused the old version with the new v3.1.2.32.
The new release is actually v3.1.2.32 and is avalable now.RIM has updated BlackBerry App World this weekend to v3.1.2.32. This is not a huge jump but it does offer a few user interface and usability improvements. RIM was even kind enough to include a change log that lists:
- Alternate billing options shown in purchase confirmation screen
- Review submission screen UI refresh
- Bug fixes
I am curious what is in the catch all "Bug fixes" but hopefully Thorsten has the App World team working double time to pump out features and add things like discounts and coupon codes. Check out the latest App World at www.blackberry.com/appworld or in App World

Переслать - BlackBerry Parental Controls for Apps Show Up in Latest OS Leaks
BlackBerry owners for years have been asking me for a way to lock down certain applications from their kids and others. Until now other developers have stepped into that gap offering apps that lock one or more applications from running by using a password. Phil at OSBB noticed that the latest OS 7.1.0.402 leaks include a new Parental Controls feature under the security tab. This new feature lets parents lock down access to the:
- Phone
- Limit incoming calls to contacts
- Text Messages
- Bluetooth File Transfer
- Location Services
- Browser
- YouTube Uploader
- Application Installations
- Email Account Setup
- Camera
- BlackBerry Messenger
- Google Talk
I know third party apps provide quite a bit more flexibility but this will allow parents to block access to the browser if they want. Hopefully BlackBerry 10 adds on these features just like RIM already has in App World for BlackBerry smartphones. Check out a video Phil did showing the new Parental Controls in action:

Переслать - RIM Hires Law Firm Milbank, Tweed, Hadley & McCloy LLP for Possible Licensing
I have a gut feeling that this has more to do with due diligence but Reuters is attaching quite a bit of significance to it. They exclusively announced (hopefully confirmed) that RIM has hired the law firm Milbank, Tweed, Hadley & McCloy LLP. This engagement is supposedly to "work out a restructuring plan that could include selling assets, seeking joint ventures, or licensing patents" according to "people briefed on the matter."
The sources say that RIM is looking to possibly boost revenue by licensing BlackBerry 10 or opening up access to RIM's NOC for secure communications on other platforms. One of the sources said "This is a very mature strategy and RIM was very far down the road with a lot of those discussions with carriers."
Both RIM and the law firm declined to comment on the story. RIM has hired Milbank previously so who knows what really is going on here. Check out the details at Reuters and let us know what you think.
