- WebKit & Flash Vulnerabilities Found In Older BlackBerry 10 & PlayBook
BlackBerry just put out four different announcements for vulnerabilities on the BlackBerry Z10, Q10, and BlackBerry PlayBook. None of the vulnerabilities are currently known to be exploited in the wild but who knows when that could change. All of them require you to go to a malicious website or click on a malicious link before they can do anything.
- The first vulnerability is in the Adobe Flash Player on the Z10, Q10, and PlayBook up to but not including BlackBerry 10 OS version 10.1.0.1720 or later and/or BlackBerry Tablet OS version 2.1.0.1753 or later.
- There are two WebKit vulnerabilities. One of them is fixed in BlackBerry 10 OS version 10.0.10.261 or later and/or BlackBerry Tablet OS version 2.1.0.1753 or later. The second one is fixed in BlackBerry 10 OS version 10.1.0.1392 or later.
- The last vulnerability is in libexif image library on the PlayBook that is fixed in BlackBerry Tablet OS version 2.1.0.1753 or later.
Let us know if you spot more details. These vulnerabilities are inevitable now that BlackBerry uses webkit, Flash, and other libraries. I love how BlackBerry recommends we reach out to carriers for newer OS builds if available…

Переслать - Latest Leak Claims NSA Can Access BES Emails
I find this latest report from German news magazine Der Spiege a bit suspect but it’s worth mentioning. They are claiming based on some new leaks from Edward Snowden that the NSA and it’s UK counterpart have been cracking BES encryption since 2009. We already know that any government can access SMS and BIS traffic on any carrier network. Now this latest leak claims that BlackBerry BES traffic can also be breached.BlackBerry has long claimed that they do not hold a backdoor key to BES encryption. It all goes encrypted from the device to the BES server using AES encryption. This makes me wonder how in the world the NSA is making their way into that conversation.
According to the leak the NSA has been hitting BlackBerry BES email sinc May 2009, when they ran into temporary difficulties caused by BlackBerry’s messaging protocol changing following and acquisition. Then In March 2010, they were once again able to access the information, Der Spiegel said, citing GCHQ documents marked “UK Secret.”
I still find the claims highly suspect but hopefully we will get a response out of BlackBerry. So far they have not said much other than the fact that they do not have a back door to provide for BES communication. The only real other option I can think of is them having a back door to AES… or possibly having access to the BES server.
Check out more details at Spiegel Online

Переслать - What Do You Think Of The iPhone 5S & 5C
All the players in the mobile space had their eyes to Apple today to see what they have been cooking for the last year. It seems like the leaks had it spot on with very little new being revealed during the conference. They announced a new cheaper colorful version of the iPhone 5 called the 5C. They then upgraded a bit of the guts and camera on the 5 and called it the 5S with a fingerprint sensor. Not really the revolutionary trend setting role that Apple used to enjoy.
What was your reaction to the latest updates from Apple?

Переслать - BlackBerry Confirms 'Small Number of Employees Laid Off Today'
There were rumors late last night that BlackBerry sacked a large number of their sales staff. This was ancillary numbers based on a source that told the Cantech Letter that they suddenly had many friends change on BBM to a different email address from BlackBerry's sales department. Not exactly a solid fact but it is worrisome. The WSJasked a BlackBerry spokesperson and they said "I can confirm a small number of employees were laid off today," without providing additional details.
So who really knows what a small number is. Either way BlackBerry is definitely changing things up…

Переслать - BBM for iPhone Submitted to iTunes 2 Weeks Ago for Review?
Alex Kinsella tweeted something interesting a few days ago. It looks like BBM (BlackBerry Messenger) was submitted to iTunes 2 weeks ago for iPhone review. Cross platform BBM is a truly anticipated event. It is a way for BlackBerry to re establish themselves with users who have jumped ship, and even for people who have never had a BlackBerry to get the best cross platform messaging experience. Now we have see the launch page come and go, as well a video of BBM running on an Android. But now the wait is on to see how long Apple decides to take to review and release what millions are waiting for. Chime in with your thoughts in the comments section.

Переслать - Weekend Review, What You Might Have Missed
It was a busy weekend for most of us, and we couldn’t get everything posted. Let us recap some of the happenings all in one place! First, lets start with a few OS (Operating System) leaks.
The big one here is a new OS for the Z10 100-1, this device usually gets left behind because of the slower processor, and no LTE. The BerryLeaks team is happy to bring OS 10.2.0.1521 to the 100-1. Now they could have made this OS for all other models, but because only 2 files changed since the last leak, they decided to let the 100-1 take all the glory.
Next up, is the BerryLeaks team again. They were able to leak out a new OS for the PlayBook… yes you read that right… the Playbook. They bring OS 2.1.0.1753 for both WiFi and 4G PlayBooks. There is nothing really new in the OS, except for some minor performance enhancements. We don’t know for how long we will see the PlayBook continue to be updated, so its nice to see. Head over to the forums on CrackBerry to download your copy.
One more update! This one officially from BlackBerry. BlackBerry BBM with Channels has been updated for all devices, Legacy and BB10. You can sign in to BlackBerry BetaZone here, and grab it your device. They bring some good enhancements, and hopfully it is soon to be released to the public.
DISCLAIMER: Please note that we are not responsible if any damage is done to your device while attempting to put a leaked OS on to it. Please be careful and read all provided instructions before proceeding.

Переслать - SayIt Built For BlackBerry Updates with Music Search, Ability to Launch BBM, and More!
SayIt by BachKhoe University has been updated to version 2.4.0.8. SayIt is similar to Siri but is made for the BlackBerry and works pretty well. Переслать - A-Solar Power Bank 7000 Charger Review
You might be thinking this is a solar powered charger. You would be mistaken. A-Solar is the name of a company that does make some solar powered products, but this is not one of them. When I received this portable charger from MyTrendyPhone.com for review I eagerly opened up the packaging and tried to open the charger to reveal the solar panels. It was then that it all came together.
All was not lost though. I still had a portable charger that is quite compact and able to charge 2 devices at once.
The 7000 in the name is not as misleading as the brand name. This charger packs a 7000 mAh li-ion battery and comes with connector cables for iPhone, iPad, and any other devices that use Mini USB or Micro USB.
As I have tested out this charger I have not been too impressed. Charging seems to take longer than normal and it has an auto-off “feature” that stops charging automatically. There is no on/off switch. Just the big silver button that acts only as an on button, or wakeup button. I frequently found myself having to come back and push the button to restart the charging process. The 4 LED lights beside the silver button show you how much juice is remaining.
There are 3 ports on the front of the charger. The middle one (Micro USB) is for charging the charger itself. Which brings me to another drawback I found: this little guy is not the best multitasker. When the charger is charging itself, it will not charge any other devices. It will charge 2 devices at once as long as it is not charging itself.
The 2 ports flanking the port marked ”IN” are for charging other devices. There is only one USB multi cable included with the charger but most of us have extra cables lying around.
If I were to recommend a portable charger it would definitely be the Zagg Spark 6000 which I have been using for a long time. Features include: fast charging of 2 devices, on/off switch and the ability to charge itself and devices simultaneously. Check out our full review here.
If you are looking for solar powered devices, there are plenty of others featured on MyTrendyPhone’s website. Just read the descriptions carefully.
MyTrendyPhone.com also has a massive selection of BlackBerry accessories. More useful links below.

Переслать - BlackBerry Now Joins The FIDO Alliance and Board In Seeking Secure and Universal Authentification for Mobile Platforms
FIDO is the Fast IDentity Online Alliance which is a 501 non-profit organization which was formed in July 2012. The alliance was formed to address certain issues and to find ways to authenticate easier than the current methods without losing security. The FIDO Alliance website has the following explanation: “to address the lack of interoperability among strong authentication devices as well as the problems users face with creating and remembering multiple usernames and passwords. The FIDO Alliance plans to change the nature of authentication by developing specifications that define an open, scalable, interoperable set of mechanisms that supplant reliance on passwords to securely authenticate users of online services. This new standard for security devices and browser plugins will allow any website or cloud application to interface with a broad variety of existing and future FIDO-enabled devices that the user has for online security.”
FIDO and BlackBerry are very proud to announce that BlackBerry has become the 40th member of the Alliance and has been appointed to the Board of Directors. This makes BlackBerry one of the first mobile platform and mobile device suppliers to join the FIDO Alliance.
BlackBerry Joins FIDO Alliance and Board; Seeks Secure, Universal Authentication for Mobile Platform and Device Users
WATERLOO, ON and PALO ALTO, CA – The FIDO (Fast IDentity Online) Alliance, an industry consortium revolutionizing online authentication with the first standards-based specifications, today announced that BlackBerry® (NASDAQ: BBRY; TSX: BB) has joined the Alliance and been appointed to the Board of Directors.
FIDO members commit to share technology and collaborate to deliver open specifications for universal strong authentication that enables FIDO-compliant authentication methods to be interoperable, more secure and private, and easier to use. BlackBerry is among the first mobile platform and mobile device suppliers to engage with the FIDO Alliance to equip customers with easy-to-use strong authentication, allowing them to easily move from site to site securely without having to enter identifying information multiple times. As a FIDO Alliance Relying Partner (RP), BlackBerry will be able to better serve its millions of customers on BlackBerry.com, and people who use BBM™, BlackBerry® Protect and other BlackBerry services around the world, as well as developers submitting apps on the BlackBerry® World™ storefront.
"We welcome BlackBerry to the FIDO Alliance board as one of the world's leading mobile platforms and mobile device providers. BlackBerry's addition to the FIDO Alliance moves the mobile industry closer to universal strong authentication using the open FIDO specifications that embrace all use cases," said Michael Barrett, FIDO Alliance president. "We also prize BlackBerry among the Internet's leading relying parties, with the potential to allow millions of users to utilize open strong authentication."
From initial design and manufacturing to developing tamper resistant hardware and software for securing data at rest or in transit, security has been the central element of the BlackBerry value proposition since its inception. BlackBerry provides all the components to offer secure Enterprise Mobility Management (EMM) for BlackBerry, iOS® and Android™ devices. BlackBerry also demonstrates the same dedication to perfecting and standardizing security protocols.
"BlackBerry is deeply committed to remaining the Gold Standard in mobile security while providing a model for others to adopt and follow," said Brian McBride, Technical Director for Identity at BlackBerry. "Offering safe, reliable access for our customers across the globe is inherent to everything BlackBerry does as an organization. We are both excited and proud to join the FIDO Alliance to help extend mobile security best practices and standards to the global community as the alliance strives to achieve universal secure authentication.”
The FIDO protocol will support a full range of authentication technologies, including biometrics such as fingerprint scanners, voice and facial recognition, as well as existing solutions and communications standards, such as Trusted Platform Modules (TPM), USB Security Tokens, Near Field Communication (NFC), One Time Passwords (OTP), embedded Secure Elements (eSE), and many other existing and future technology options. The open protocol is designed to be extensible and to accommodate future innovation, as well as protect existing investments. The FIDO protocol allows the interaction of technologies within a single infrastructure, enabling security options to be tailored to the distinct needs of each user and organization.
Organizations that want to influence the development of the FIDO specifications and ensure that the open standards address their use cases and requirements should join the FIDO Alliance now. FIDO Alliance members will define the market requirements, contribute to the FIDO specifications and be part of the ecosystem that will address the broad range of use cases and technologies. The FIDO Alliance invites all companies and organizations to join the Alliance and become active members.
This is a great move on the part of BlackBerry, further strengthening their view and name in mobile security.
