- RIM VP of BlackBerry OS Explains how BlackBerry 10 Avoids Android Security Issues
We have heard bits and pieces over the years about QNX's time tested secure microkernel. Long time QNX executive who is now VP for the BlackBerry OS, Sebastien Marineau-Mes, is responsible for all R&D activities for QNX and the BlackBerry OS. Jay pointed out an interview he recently did with TechRadar discussing how BlackBerry 10 avoids many Android security pitfalls due to its infrastructure model. Its a great read and in about 4 paragraphs he summarizes one of the fundamental security differences between Android and BlackBerry 10.

Переслать - Twitter for BlackBerry v3.2 Now in App World
Its good to be back from the on and off Jewish holidays and vacation the last few weeks. With that said RIM has been consistently updating the beta of Twitter for BlackBerry v3.2 in the Beta Zone and now it is ready for prime time. They promised that the last beta zone update was just a preview of the gold release so there should not be any changes if you have that version. Here are the highlights of the update:
- Enhanced Tweet Screen – Twitter 3.2 gives you a quick preview of a tweet link or photo through an enhanced tweet details screen, helping you decide if you want to click for more detail. Previews capture content such as headlines, quick summary snippets as well as publisher and author details. It's a convenient and easy way to get the gist before clicking for more detail.
- Finding Friends Button – Check out if any of your BlackBerry contacts have recently joined Twitter by clicking the "Find Friends" button on the Welcome Screen or Profile Page. Twitter works with your BlackBerry address book and offers suggestions on people you should follow. Discovering friends has never been easier and faster.
- Quick Follow Button – Twitter 3.2 makes it easier and faster to follow users in one click. Skip the step of clicking on profiles to follow users. Instead, simply click the Follow button and get access to more users and content. It's that easy.
Check out the update announcement here or simply download the latest Twitter for BlackBerry in App World.

Переслать - Giveaway: Win A DecalGirl Skin of Your Choice!
DecalGirl has been around since 2003. They got their start by producing full color decals for cars. When the developer saw his old Xbox he had the idea to make a skin for it and make it look way cooler. Using the same materials used for $100K+ cars DecalGirl started producing removable, full-color printed “skins” for consumer electronics devices. 9 years later DecalGirl has gone from two people working part time in a single basement room to 30+ people employed in a 19,000 square foot facility. A hobby that grossed under $100k in 2003 has grown into a multi-million dollar business.
DecalGirl has kindly provided us with 2 codes good for $9.99 towards a skin of your choice! I'm a huge fan of skins that make the matching wallpaper available as well. Gives new meaning to flow.
Pretty much all standard skins come in at $9.99, (PlayBook skins are $14.99) so the winners will only have to worry about shipping which is $2.00 in the US, $2.75 in Canada and $5.10 to most other countries. Over 330 mobile devices are supported and 22 of those are BlackBerry (including the PlayBook). I counted 140 artwork designs for the 9900 or 9930 and there is also a custom option where you can upload your own artwork or pictures to further personalize your device.
Giveaway: TWO lucky readers will win a code worth $9.99 at the DecalGirl website. To enter, leave a comment below.

Переслать - BlackBerry 10 Takes Android To School on How to Multitask
In a recent article featured on KnowYourMobile.com, Paul Briden outlined reasons 'Why BlackBerry10 should succeed.' Notice his choice of words only implies that they should succeed, not that they necessarily will. His points are quite valid and I found one section particularly interesting where he discusses BlackBerry 10's multitasking prowess over the mighty Android.
Briden points out that BlackBerry 10 will emulate the best parts of Microsoft's Window's Phone OS and Google's Android platform. This will not be pure mimicry though. The implementation in BlackBerry 10 is quite different. For example, in Android's latest builds of Ice Cream Sandwich 4.0 and Jelly Bean 4.1, there is a control that brings up a carousel that allows you to scroll through active apps, tap to open or swipe to close. BlackBerry 10 takes it one step further by making the 'entire interface the multitasking control' rather than adding a 'multitasking control to the interface.'
He explains the peek and flow functions as having a window hidden off screen at all times, in all applications where all of your messages are aggregated into a customizable list which we know as BlackBerry Hub. You can use gesture control to swipe up and see a preview of an incoming message, then continue to swipe to the side if you decide its important enough for your full attention. When you're done with the message, you can swipe again to return to the app you were in.
RIM has also implemented Active Frames which allows users to minimize active applications while they continue to display live updates. This combined 'control suite' featuring peek, flow, hub, and active frames puts the information that is most important to you conveniently and intuitively at your fingertips.
I am looking forward to the BlackBerry 10 launch because I think RIM is really onto something with the tightening up of the user experience. Will a slick OS be enough though?
Do you think BlackBerry 10's multitasking awesomeness will change the way we interact with our smartphones? Or will it be another underrated OS in an overcrowded market? What does RIM have to do to show the world the power of BlackBerry 10?

Переслать - T-Mobile Customers With Unlimited Text and No Data Will Get Free BBM
For those T-Mobile customers who have unlimited texting plans with no data will shortly be given access to BlackBerry Messenger at no extra charge. I cannot really fathom how someone with a BlackBerry device would use it solely for texting without any data at all, but then again I don't understand a lot of things. If you are one of those people, starting October 21 you will (allegedly) be able to BBM to your heart's content.
This is according to a document leaked on tmonews.com which didn't mention the BBM tidbit at all. They were more interested in the different colors of the Galaxy Note coming out later this month.
Are you one of the people that will benefit from this new promotion from T-Mobile? I'm guessing if you're reading this, you probably have been BBM'ing for a while but I'm curious who this mystery demographic is. Possibly teenagers or seniors who only use their BlackBerry for texting?
Thanks for the tip Tashanna!
