- Thorsten Heins Pegs US BlackBerry Q10 Release for End of May – Predicts Death of Tablets
BlackBerrys CEO, Thorsten Heins, has been on another media blitz this week. This time he hit Bloomberg along with Fox and a few others. He told Fox in a video interview that we are going to see a US launch of the BlackBerry Q10 in the "end of May" timeframe. They also talk a little about the investigation into the returns claims by analysts that were debunked. Check it out below:
Thorsten also told Bloomberg in an interview that:
"In five years I don't think there'll be a reason to have a tablet anymore," Heins said in an interview yesterday at the Milken Institute conference in Los Angeles. "Maybe a big screen in your workspace, but not a tablet as such. Tablets themselves are not a good business model."
That actually makes sense to me since tablets are now really just compromise devices. Thorsten sees the future in mobile computing not necessarily tablets. In short they have more planned than just phones. Check out the interview below:

Переслать - a-Jays One+ Earphone Review
Earbuds are not hard to come by these days. Almost every smartphone comes with a set, so in order for people to spend money on some they had better offer something in return such as improvements to sound quality, extra features, or a style that fits your personality. If your style just so happens coincide with the awesomeness of spiderman there is an earbud for that. GearZap.com was nice enough to send us the a-Jays One+ earphones for review which offer a nice balance of improvements to sound quality, features, and in my opinion styling.
Sound Quality
One of my biggest complaints with earbuds is their "tinny sound". When I compared the Jays earphones with the stock Z10 earphones there is a definite upgrade to sound quality. The Jays had a nice warm sound and somehow managed to sneak a little bit of bass into that small little bud. All types of music came through nice and clear at all ranges of volume. For the price range I was very impressed with the sound quality.
Features
I find one of the biggest reasons for people to buy aftermarket earbuds is to get the "in-ear" design most of them come with. I prefer this design as it offers a little more noise cancelation and fits more snug in my ear. If I hear people saying they don't like the "in-ear" they usually say it is because they don't fit well. Jays realizes that earbuds are not one size fits all and as a result provides 5 different sizes to choose from. It is very easy to swap the different sized silicone covers.
My favourite feature was the tangle-free cables. One of the main reasons to use earbuds over their acoustically superior big brother headphones is their portability. You can smash these into your front pocket with your phone and bring them out tangle free. The flat cables did however seem to be slightly heavier than regular earbuds.
The microphone on the cable comes with a one button remote which I found does all sorts of things on my Z10. When listening to music you can click once for pause/play. If you hold the button it brings you to voice control. When receiving a call simply click once to answer. While in the call one click mutes the conversation and holding the button ends the call. There is also an android app for the headphones which I converted to .bar, but couldn't get it to sideload on my Z10. If anyone can get it working please let me know. The app matches the styling of the headphones and lets you program what different combinations of clicks do on your phone.
Styling
I really like the minimalist styling of the headphones which look very clean and high quality. I also like how they put a dot that you can feel on the right headphone so you don't have to look at them to get them in the correct ear. One design feature that I didn't like was the bend at the headphone jack. I would prefer that the jack come straight out of the port. On the Z10 the bend results in sometimes covering the sleep/wake button which got in the way at times.
Overall if you want a nice upgrade in sound quality, features, and styling look no further than the a-Jays One+ earphones from GearZap.com.
Pros
- Nice warm sound
- 5 different size options
- No tangled mess
- Microphone on cable
- Modern styling
Cons
- 90 degree bend at 3.5mm jack
- Cords feel a bit heavy
- App not BlackBerry compatible

Переслать - Thorsten Heins Gives Optimistic Sales Expectations for the BlackBerry Q10 (Video)
BlackBerry is making a comeback, folks. How much of an impact remains to be seen, but it’s certainly headed in the right direction. The company’s proud CEO sat down with Bloomberg’s Willow Bay at the Milken Institute 2013 Global Conference in Los Angeles to talk about the launch of the Q10 among other things.
Now it’s merely an off the cuff comment, but if you listen carefully, around the 2:23 mark of the video, while discussing expectations, Thor mentions “several tens of millions of units” with regards to sales. Could mean any number of things, but sound off in the comments on how you took itCheck out the video on Bloomberg TV below.

Переслать - BlackBerry Q10 Has Been Unleashed, Find Out What The Reviews Are Saying
If you are in the UK, then you are able to get your hands on the BlackBerry Q today! That is, if the Q10 is your Type. Canada will follow next week and the other countries thereafter. Hopefully the US will be soon, so I won’t have to wait too long. The BlackBerry Q10 is the other sibling of the BlackBerry Z10 that many have been waiting for: the classic iconic BlackBerry Q10. Now that it’s finally gracing us with it’s presence, the reviews have started coming in on what the techs think about the Q10.
CNet praises the keyboard, long life battery and the message handling capability all incorporated into the BlackBerry OS 10.1.
The New York Times has stated that there’s no other phone on the market that offers a better combination of speed and text accuracy.
Mashable states: “is the best keyboard phone you can buy today. It’s a gorgeous piece of hardware with state-of-the-art smartphone technology, which the keyboard interacts with in some very useful ways. QWERTY keyboard fans will really enjoy the Q10 — even more since it ships with BlackBerry 10.1, the latest software.”
TechCrunch says the Q10 “…is the phone that's more deserving of the "flagship" moniker for the new BlackBerry fleet.”
Engadget states that the Q10 is unquestionably the best keyboard phone on the market and that the battery when put to the test lasted 9 hours and 35 minutes, which is an hour and 20 minutes longer than the Z10.
The Associated Press states: “…the new BlackBerry Q10 from Research In Motion Ltd. is a successful marriage of the modern touch-screen smartphone and the iconic BlackBerry keyboard”. And about the new OS 10, they say the following: “The new operating system is a welcome change, not just for BlackBerry users. It’s very quick to get around the phone, and it seldom leaves me baffled the way many incarnations of Android do. It’s laser-focused on giving you access to email, texts and other means of communication, as opposed to music, movies and games.” They also touch on the Peek and Hub.
The Wall Street Journal states that the BlackBerry OS system is responsive and fun to use and the browser is super fast. They also note that the Q10 lacks the trackpad the Bold had, but in three days it was no longer missed.
The Globe and Mail states that it’s insanely fast.
The Telegraph has stated that the Q10 is the best keyboard phone. It also says that the Q10 has the advantage of the larger battery, smaller screen and the keyboard. Because of the battery and the smaller screen, this means less battery drain which is very important for business customers. It also elaborates on the “Instant Actions”.
Mobile Syrup states the Q10 is simply has the best hardware keyboard ever designed, has a fantastic speaker, and is HD voice enabled, is a great phone, and the best BlackBerry ever, and a fantastic communication tool.
Our own BerryReview’s Ronen also gave his insight and very through review of the Q10 and compared it to the 9900, letting us see the features and all the views of the Q10.
Laptop Magazine also has great things to say about the excellent physical keyboard with feedback from the keys being superb. Laptop also says that the OS 10.1 is a multi-tasker’s dream.
Mobiledia states: “With BBM, you can video chat with friends. And if you connect with Skype, BB10 lets you run multiple apps at once. That means you can check your e-mail or play a game without closing your chat. Multitaskers can rejoice — this feature alone gives BlackBerry a leg up on the competition.”
There’s more too you can read at Inside BlackBerry.
So between the obvious of the keyboard and the OS 10.1, and the feel of the device, they also talk about the camera and “Time Shift” feature. I noticed that while you see Balance mentioned, I don’t see too much on BlackBerry Remember or Story Maker which are two great features of the OS I think are amazing yet get overlooked.
What makes the Q10 so appealing?
First it’s the bigger and better. It’s larger and wider than “legacy” BlackBerry qwerty keyboard devices. The room for error has been closed even more. While I adore my BlackBerry Z10, and since the leaks I’ve come to love the virtual keyboard even more with OS 10.1, but it’s still not the same as my 9930′s keyboard which I sometimes miss.
The Q10 sports the largest battery any BlackBerry has ever had, a whopping 2100 mAh sized. This gives you the ability to run almost all day on one single battery. One thing I can say is that my Z nearly makes it to the end of my workday before I have to change out the battery. I can only imagine how much nicer it would be to have my BlackBerry last all day not just a workday! This battery keeps the BlackBerry Q10 a maintained workhorse.
Shortcuts with Type and Go, with the BlackBerry Q10, all you have to do is type call Jane Doe or BBM Luis, and the Q10 instinctively follows your commands. Short, sweet and to the point!
The design of the Q10 is precise, light, and made to last. The back is crafted from from a unique glass weave material which is lighter and more durable than even plastic. A machined stainless steel frame surrounds the phone and there’s a durable black coating so chips and scratches are less of a worry.
It has BlackBerry 10.1. The amazing OS on a device that has a few tricks of it’s own. It’s not just an operating system, it’s a mobile solution.
Don’t get me wrong. I love my BlackBerry Z10 but the BlackBerry Q10 is so intriguing and sought after because of it’s symbol with the Qwerty keyboard, the shortcuts on the keyboard, and the battery size capable of making this machine everything it’s built up to be.
CIO’s Al Sacco stated he’s taking his time with the review of the Q10, but he does a great job in elaborating on the comparison and the specs of the device. This will let you see comparison side by side of the Q10, Z10, and 9900.
Of course the BlackBerry Z10 has that beautiful screen size that is amazing too, but you can’t get the 15 hrs of talk time on it like you can the Q10. And the keyboard is amazing on 10.1, sometimes it’s the comfort of the physical Qwerty keyboard that allows you to fly while typing on the go.
The BlackBerry Q10 takes Action to a whole new level.
Are you waiting for the BlackBerry Q10? What feature has you waiting for it the most? We want to know!

Переслать - BlackBerry Consolidates its Global Public Relations with APCO & Text 100
BlackBerry has been working with 20+ Public Relations agencies around the world until recently. For over 10 years they have been using Brodeur in North America along with other large agencies around the world. Heidi Davidson, SVP of BlackBerry, has really been focusing BlackBerry's PR and turning things around for the last year or so. The latest change is consolidating 75-80% of their global PR work with APCO and Text 100 with the remaining 20-25% still going to other firms.
Davidson had the following to say about the change:
"BlackBerry made the decision to embark on an initiative to evaluate our public relations agency partner support model around the world. Our goals were to ensure we are partnering with the most creative and proactive public relations agency partners and to consolidate the number of agency partners globally,"
The account is estimated to be worth about $10 million which is a nice chunk of change. It should be interesting to see how this changes BlackBerry's public relations for the better or worse now that BlackBerry 10 is out in the market. You can check out the rest of the story at PRWeek.

The QNX video that caught their attention is a concept video they created back in November that tried to imagine what your car will look like in the not to distant future. It was created and directed by Thornley Fallis and they did a great job together with QNX and BlackBerry to visualize what QNX is working on.

Gameloft has continued its solid rollout of BlackBerry 10 games with Real Football 2013 and Six-Guns. The only catch is that Real Football seems to be available everywhere but the US and Canada which sucks. Six-Guns on the other hand is available and you can play for free. Six Guns is a wild west role playing style game with your going on 40 missions from Arizona to Oregon. Real Football 2013 simply gives you the latest Gameloft football (aka Soccer) experience on BlackBerry 10. Hopefully it comes to the US and Canada shortly once they change the name to Real Soccer 2013 like they did last time.

Переслать - Review: Seidio SURFACE and ACTIVE Case For Z10
With the newest device from BlackBerry, we have been awaiting to see what case maker Seidio had in the works. Today we take a look at the Seidio ACTIVE and Seidio SURFACE cases for the BlackBerry Z10. The cases can fit anyone's lifestyle, the SURFACE, if you are looking for a great hard shell minimalist case for your device, and then the ACTIVE, with its 2 layer protection, really keeps your device safe.
First off, let me be honest, I have never been a fan of the minimalist hard cases for devices, I always felt that they would let the device wiggle inside, or just felt too cheap. Seidio has TOTALLY changed my views with their SURFACE case. It is the first two piece case that I have seen snap on with 2 pieces sliding over the device. They also have a nice felt like layer on the inside which keeps the device very safe and snug. Even after a weeks use, there still was no internal movement. The case feels almost invisible on the device and their engineers made it fit the Z10 like a glove! Furthermore it has the slightest rubber coating on the case, so that it really gives it a solid grip, almost like what we are used to with the textured battery door, when using the device naked. Even the cut outs for the ports feel natural, and they do not collect dust or pocket lint.
The case has been in and out of my pocket for the better half of a week, with keys and loose change, and it has not accumulated one scratch. The case really impressed me! Now if you are not one to carry your device in your pocket, they also have a great swivel holster which clips the device in nicely, using a top locking clip. I repeatedly walked in to the side of my kitchen table, and the device did not fall out once, now just don't tell my wife that is how the corner got so dinged up.If you're the user who likes to keep their device a little more protected, the Seidio ACTIVE is the way to go. It has the classic two step coverage, first a rubber bumper, then a plastic shell that keeps everything in place. It really makes the device feel secure, and a little extra insurance if you drop it. Siedio also threw in a little bonus, a kickstand on the back. I used it a few times while at work watching Netflix, don't tell the boss. But it worked as intended, and keeps the device at the perfect angle, even under heavy fluorescent lights. Having a case with some extra protection make me feel a lil cocky, so I did a few drop tests, 3ft, 4.5ft anf 6ft. The device seemed to always land on a lower corner, and with the rubber bumper, was full protected. The case also did not scuff at all (Drops were on hardwood).
With the ACTIVE case, it was a little bulkier, so it always didn't feel comfortable in my pocket, and same as the SURFACE, has an available holster. It has the same great top locking clip that kept the device safe and stable the whole time. It also didn't create too much extra weight on my belt, and sometimes I would be looking for my phone, and realize that it was on my hip and feel like a goof.
A little added bonus of this case is that I removed the hard plastic shell, and used it with just the bumper for a day or two. I know this isn't what Seidio had in mind when they designed this case, but it worked out really well. The rubber bumper fits the phone so well, and it never even started to come off. It is kind of like getting two cases in one.
Overall Seidio has really made some good cases for the Z10. The quality really shows, and it is the same quality that Seidio has been known for. The only thing I would have liked to see is that they would come with screen protectors. You can grab either of their cases at a local retail outlet in your area, or at the Seidio Store online from $29.95 and $34.95 respectively , they have multiple colours available and some other styles as well. You definitely will not be let down!

Переслать - BlackBerry OS 10.1 Includes Korean Keyboard Input Support
Since BlackBerry 10 launched I have been hearing users ask me if Korean language inputs are supported. Sadly at the launch of the Z10 the input was not available though I think you could read Korean.
