- Unity Lets Devs Sign Up for Early Access to BlackBerry Add-on Open Beta
We told you earlier that Unity was working on an add-on for their platform to make it easier to bring games to BlackBerry 10. They are letting developers sign up for early access to the add-on before the open beta which starts later this spring. They want developers to sign on to influence what features will be prioritized and provide feedback on the tool.
You can preregister now at this link. Here are some important notes from Unity:
The hardware – You will be able to publish games to all BlackBerry 10 devices including the Z10 and the Q10 along with future devices. Once BlackBerry releases BlackBerry 10 for Playbook you will also be able to bring games to the tablet as well.
Publishing to BlackBerry AppWorld – You will be able to port your existing games to the BlackBerry 10 platform using the Unity 4.2 alpha/beta builds. We will provide a two month trial license key for all registered beta participants that will unlock BlackBerry platform support in the Unity toolset.
Please note that any project deployed with a trial license will be watermarked and not for commercial release. Developers who wish to publish their games on BlackBerry App World using our alpha/beta builds should contact the Unity Sales Department.
Be cautious about signing up if you're on a tight deadline – It's not ideal to become a beta-tester if you have any time sensitive dependencies to release your Unity product in BlackBerry App World. This Unity Beta product will not be fully functional nor contain a full commercial feature locked set of tools. New users to Unity should wait to develop in Unity for BlackBerry until after the public commercial release.

Переслать - Dissapointed in Google for Scuttling Google Reader? This Might Entertain You for Now
Personally I am still scrambling to find a replacement for Google Reader for my daily desktop and mobile news reading. There have been a few smaller players trying to pick up the pieces of the huge gaping hole in RSS providers that will happen in two months when Google kills off Reader. So far I have not found anything I like but Mashable did manage to make me roll on the floor laughing by pointing out Fotcorn's StarRSS. I really cannot say more than it is awesome and you need to check it out right now. (it makes noise so maybe in a place where that is okay)
>>>BerryReview on StarRSS
PS: I can confirm it works beautifully on BlackBerry 10 and a little slow on BlackBerry OS 7.1.

Переслать - More Details on BlackBerry World Promo Codes Leaked By BlackBerry
Well if we had any doubt that BlackBerry was testing out Coupon Codes and Promo Codes for BlackBerry World we can now rest assured it is coming. We already had coupon codes showing up in the latest BlackBerry 10 Developer Beta and now BlackBerry has confirmed as much by listing out the possible errors when using Promo Codes on BlackBerry World. These give us an idea of what kinds of promo codes there will be:
- Redemption per code limit is reached – The defined redemption limit for the specific promo code has been reached
- Total Redemption limit is reached – The defined number of downloads for the specific promo has been reached
- Promotion not supported for this Content – The promo code does not apply to the content you are accessing
- Promotion is not started – The promo code being used has not yet started
- Promotion is expired – The promo code has expired and is no longer valid
- Promotion is not active – The promo code is not yet activated
- Invalid Promotion Id – The selected application is not part of the promotion
- Promotion Code returned null – The promo code is not valid
- Promotion Content returned null – The promo code is valid but the promotional content is not supported by either your device or country or wireless provider
- Promotion id or locale is null – The required locale is not specified
These error codes clue us in that developers will have the options to:
- Limit promo codes on how many times they can be used
- Set start and end times for the promotion
- Specify specific products for the promotion
- Specify specific locale for the promotion
- Set Promotion based on your device, country or wireless provider
It should be interesting to see how this is rolled out. When a promo code has been entered you can tap the "Promo Rules" button to display the specific rules of the promotion such as promo time duration, number of redemptions per code, total number of items available per code.
Sweet!!!

Переслать - AlphaWave Old School Shooter Lands On BlackBerry 10
AlphaWave is an awesome old school shooter that was available for the PlayBook previously. Now Hardline Studios has brought the game to BlackBerry 10 bringing its old school arcade shooter experience to BlackBerry 10. This game will give you flashbacks to Galaga and Astroids from back in the day but with much nicer graphics. Here is the change log Hardline has put out for the update:
- While there won't be sharks with frickin' lasers mounted to their heads, we have updated the laser hyper weapon and made it far more lasery and what not.
- We tweaked the game play to make the game more enjoyable with an overall smoother experience. Weapon powerups appear every 4 waves now so you can constantly change weapons.
- The bomb button has been re-worked and we fixed that random bug where the bomb would detonate twice in a row!
- The hyper-weapon button has also been re-worked and now charges based on the number of objects destroyed. The more and quicker your destroy objects, the faster the hyper weapon charges.
- Updated the score page to give it a much better look and feel.
Check out AlphaWave for a very reasonable $0.99 in BlackBerry World

Переслать - A Closer Look At OS 10.1 And What's in Store
Yesterday I couldn’t wait to download and install the leaked OS 10.1.0.1429 on my BlackBerry Z10. I know that many of us have been anxiously waiting for it. I have delved into the settings, features and apps to see what’s been enhanced and what’s still lacking. I’m going to go through the pros and cons.
First off the download takes some time and not everyone has been able to back up their Z. That for me was a con. However installation is fast, restoring took a little time. Set up goes fast. You want to set up first then restore. I have found it best to delete my email and social accounts after restoring and readd them. That method worked best for me. My contacts came through niecely and my apps saved their data.
The few apps in question are Adobe and BlackBerry Bridge. Adobe works but will not update and BlackBerry Bridge does not install back on. These were neither pros nor cons because Adobe works and since the Bridge was taken down to a bare minimum with the Z, I found myself not using my Bridge like I did with the 99xx series.
Contacts have been given a a new enhancement. You can now select and customize ring tones for your Contacts. I really missed this feature. I like making sure those who communicate with me most often have their own tune so I know when it’s them. That was a huge pro for me.
The browser is blazing fast. I was very impressed with the speed. The music player is enhanced as well. The calculator has been revamped and enhanced as you can see. There are two calculator modes, tip calculator, and the converter. I noticed Voice Control works great, Compass and GPS do too. The camera now has the added feature of HDR.
Besides all those I have mentioned the other feature that really makes all the difference for the BlackBerry Z10 is the enhanced virtual keyboard. words show up in the bottom in green as auto correct or suggestion and there’s still flick but the keyboard is really slick and easier to use.
10.1 is definitely like the OS grown up. The pros far outweigh the cons of this update. I was considering the BlackBerry Q at times because the keyboard was hard for me to adjust to but with this update I’m content and happily surprised.
BerryWeather maps do not display correctly, I’ve heard of random reboots, and unable to send or receive texts. The only one of those I could verify was the BeWeather maps.. I haven’t seen a reboot nor texts issues. Calls work great, BBM video works fantastic, and BBM. If you have installed the leak, please share with us any new features you’ve found or any issues you’ve found as well.

Переслать - Review: Wicked Audio Solus Headphones
I am not a DJ or an expert with Audio and headphones but I do like a confortable headset that provides that and quality sound. Recently I got a set of DJ style Wicked Audio Solus headphones which are quite different from previous ones I've owned in the past. They are stylish, with a red Wicked logo, with hinges that allow DJ's to rotate the headset to queue music and provides a control to switch from mono to stereo the sound that is being delivered on the headset. So lets take a look at what's in the box:
What you get in the Box:
- A slip cover and the box it self which looks very cool (Could make a nice gift box)
- 1 DJ style headphone
- An extension cable
- An Adaptor (Gold plated)
- Scratch guard cloth carrying case
- Wicked Audio Sticker
- User manual
Features:
- Band – Bootlegged dual thickness headband
- Swivel ear pieces –allows to play both sides
- Hinge – folds SOLUS into itself for easy storage
- Speaker with a 40mm driver
- Cushions – well padded and comfortable
- Volume control with collapsible enhanced bass
- Noise Isolation –High Fidelity –Mono/Stereo
- Control to switch on/off Mono to Stereo
- Braided red cord that adds more style and less tangle of the cord
Specs:
- DRIVER 40mm
- SENSITIVITY 105dB
- FREQUENCY 20Hz-20,000Hz
- IMPEDANCE 32 Ohms
- CORD LENGTH 4ft/1.2m
- EXTENSION CORD 6ft/1.8m
As I said earlier I am not a DJ but I really enjoy using this headphone’s, I can listen to music while I still have one ear free. So even if you are not a DJ and you are into gadgets this headset provides a good quality sound without going deep in your pockets. I often use them to listen to music while working on homework, the headsets are conformable enough to wear for quite a few minutes because of the padded ear pieces. The band is also padded so is comfortable on your head, I am bald so this is a plus
. The head band also allows for adjustment to find the right fit. Depending on the output source the sound may vary, I used them both with my Z10 and the sound was clear but not as loud as it was with my laptop. So that is something to keep in mind. Also the controls on the cord allow for some adjustments on the sound and the ON/OFF Mono/Stereo. Now this controls the sound being delivered not the source of the sound.
Pros: Most of the pros has been mentioned, the prices is not too high, provides a stylish look, both useful for regular users and aspiring DJ's. The price is more reasonable than similar headsets and delivers a good quality sound. The headset is adjustable to find your right fit, and also allow for easily queuing music.
Cons: The device does great in high and low levels but in the mid-range it may loose a little. Good for urban, electronic and Latin, and similar genres but may not be as good for some of the more mellow Genres.
Cautionary note: If you are not careful with your gadgets then be-careful you can easily break them because of the hinges and swivel ear pieces.
Available at: Select International Retailers (Maybe around $50-$70 on Amazon and similar retailers)
Price: $99.99

Переслать - AT&T VM Viewer and YouMail for the BlackBerry Z10 [Sideload]
Trying to cover all angles of what the Z10 is capable of, we mainly find ourselves missing a lot of the extra things we can do to make the most of the device. Most Z10 users I know do not have any sideloaded apps on their device. Sideloading is a great way to take advantage of apps from the Android platform that are not available in BlackBerry World. Every few days I will be posting some Android apps that work great on the Z10 (BlackBerry 10), and can be of value to you.
First off, if you already do not know how to sideload, take a quick glance at the tutorial I put together a few weeks ago. And please, do not be scared… it is a lot easier than it appears to be! Also, when I post the links to the apps, they will be verified working. And I will also post a link to the description in the Google Play store, so you can see what other users are saying on functionality as well as issue
The AT&T VM Viewer is a VERY handy app for residential and business subscribers with AT&T hardlines (non cellular). The app lets you view your home or business voicemail on the go. And for a busy person, this can save a lot of time and hassle while our lives get busier and busier! Check out the full description and review in Google Play, and download it for yourself from AndroidBars.net.
Next is YouMail, a free visual voicemail application for your mobile device. It can also email you your visual voicemail notifications so while on a PC there is no need to check your phone, or is a great option for if your battery is dead! This has been an essential for people from the Legacy days, and upset a lot of people when YouMail had no plans for a BlackBerry 10 release. Grab your copy here, and see more on the app via the YouMail website.
Let us know how you enjoy these apps below in the comments section!

Переслать - Per Email Notifications & Vibration Shows Up in BlackBerry 10.1 Beta
One of the areas I really want BlackBerry to work on for BlackBerry OS 10.1 is the notifications. I am really missing the world class notification options on BlackBerry OS 7 that are missing on BlackBerry 10. One of those features that I need is the ability to have a different notification per email address or even silence certain email addresses. Turns out that the BlackBerry 10.1 Developer Beta includes this option! You can also set how many times you wish for the phone to vibrate per notification.
As you can see above BlackBerry has also added each email address as a separate line in the share menu. Here are some of the other options I am personally waiting for BlackBerry to add back:
- Different notification options for BBM messages vs BBM Groups
- The ability to set a different notification volume and vibration length per email, sms, etc
- The ability to create your own notification profiles beyond the preset ones
- The option to have different notifications inside and outside the holster
Let us know what you want to see BlackBerry add back!

Переслать - BlackBerry Revamps Their Program for Partners
BlackBerry is not just revamping their products but also how they interact with their partners who range from resellers, to developers, to anyone else providing support and services around BlackBerry. BlackBerry wants to make sure these partners have the tools and resources to succeed and make BlackBerry succeed. With that in mind they have changed up their BlackBerry Partner Support Services program to better align with their partners needs. These changes include:
- New program levels with new options to enable partners to price their programs more efficiently and have more consistent margins.
- More options for accessing BlackBerry support representatives to create a more comprehensive program.
- New entrance criteria offering discounts tied to BlackBerry Certification.
That means they have moved to a more consistent cost basis instead of the previous per-incident model by moving to a per user device per month fee. Tier 3 support now also requires customers to have BlackBerry certification which many partners supposedly already have.
Check out the changes on the Partner Portal or in their announcement

Переслать - BlackBerry Confirms BlackBerry World Issue Resolved – Full Service By EOD
BlackBerry World on BlackBerry 10 has been having some wonky issues the last 24 hours or so. I thought it was a caching issue and it seems like BlackBerry has confirmed as much on Twitter. They posted on their @BlackBerry Twitter account that the issue has been identified and resolved. They explain that full access will return over the course of the day, a delay usually caused by having to prime the cache again. Either way let us know how BlackBerry World is working for you and don't forget our workaround.

Переслать - Highlights From the BlackBerry 10.1 Developer Beta OS (10.1.0.1485)
BlackBerry rocked the BlackBerry 10 developer world yesterday by launching a public beta of the BlackBerry 10.1 OS for the BlackBerry Z10 & Dev Alpha B/C. They listed a huge warning that this is not a final OS and is not intended for daily use but rather just for testing. Still that has not stopped many from doing it anyways. We just wanted to collect some of the findings readers have sent in along with out own impressions. Keep in mind some key things are missing like the Clock/Alarm!
- The OS is not as crippled as I was expecting. The basics are there including the Hub (cool new loader), BBM, Phone & more though some native apps are missing that are important like the calculator, BBM Video, and social integration
- HDR camera option
- You can paste passwords in password fields
- You can turn off notifications per section in a profile
- New option to always adjust media volume with buttons
- New Help/Demo options
- You can unlock the phone totally using the power button
- Some new details in the about screen but nothing groundbreaking
- Improved BlackBerry World updates & added coupon code option. They also added the ability to open apps after installing.
- Finally copy and paste in phone app
- APN Settings are editable for now (on some carriers)
- Easier to select text
- Some more menus are now black themed instead of white
- PIN to PIN messaging is in along with the dreaded select all button for broadcast messages
- Bit more language support
Sadly I am still not seeing the option to set new profiles but you do get a bit more control like vibration. The Android runtime is also still at 2.3.3. IMAP is also still limited to 30 day sync for my Gmail though ActiveSync got an update to forever.
As you can see these are some new features but truthfully not worth the compromise if this is your day to day phone. Still I hope we get some updated beta's with new features soon!

Переслать - How To Install the BlackBerry 10.1 Developer Beta on the BlackBerry Z10
I have had a bunch of people ask me this question since BlackBerry announced the release of the BlackBerry OS 10.1.0.1485 developer beta. BlackBerry clearly stated that the BlackBerry Dev Alpha B & C had the update available immediately but they actually also uploaded the autoloaders for all 4 models of the BlackBerry Z10. You just need to first find out what model BlackBerry Z10 you have. You can find this under Settings->About on your Z10.
NOTE: We take no responsibility for anything that happens to you if you follow the instructions below. Proceed at your own risk. This is a BETA OS which is only meant for testing and is not the full BlackBerry Z10 OS so expect issues. You can always revert back to the original OS later.
How to update your BlackBerry Z10 to the BlackBerry 10.1 developer Beta:
- Head to this page
- In the black box where it says "Dev Alpha Autoloader…" you will see a link on the bottom of the black box saying "Different Device". Click that link
- In the drop down select the model number of your Z10 that we identified before under Settings->About
- Click the big blue button to download.
- Backup your BlackBerry Z10 to your computer using BlackBerry Link. If you do not do this you will lose all of your data due to how the developer beta autoloader works
- Turn off your BlackBerry Z10
- Run the autoloader file you downloaded
- When it says "Connecting to Bootrom" connect your BlackBerry Z10 to your computer and turn it on
- Wait for it to do its thing and install and you are done!
To recover back to the current BlackBerry Z10 production OS follow the instructions here. Let us know how it goes!

Переслать - Free Parrot Recording App for BlackBerry 10 Updated With New Features
My current favorite native voice recorder for BlackBerry 10, Parrot, just got a nice upgrade this week. The new update fixes the ability to share via email and other apps like WhatsApp which is nice. They also packed on some feature additions like a recording active frame, different file formats, and more. Check out the list below from the v1.0.4 Parrot update:
- Active Frames: see the progress of your recordings and playbacks as they progress in a minimized active frame!
- Share multiple tracks at the same time
- Setting to allow automatic copying to voice folder, music folder or SD Card
- File formats: you can now save files in High(.wav), Good(.m4a) or Low(.awb) qualities
- Save to SD Card
- Default naming of tracks using date
You can pick up the latest version of Parrot free in BlackBerry World
