- BlackBerry 10 Camera: A Closer Look [VIDEO]
We know you're counting down the weeks until the BlackBerry® 10 launch event, and we're right there with you. We like to think that we broke the mold of a developer relations program when we started our BlackBerry® 10 Dev Alpha testing device program last May at BlackBerry 10 Jam in Orlando. We've given out over 7,500 BlackBerry 10 Dev Alpha testing devices to developers around the world at BlackBerry 10 Jam World Tours, BlackBerry 10 Enterprise Jams, and here at BlackBerry Jam Asia too.
As you know, there are BlackBerry 10 smartphones coming in Q1 2013 – an all-touch model similar to the BlackBerry 10 Dev Alpha, and a BlackBerry 10 smartphone with our industry-defining BlackBerry QWERTY keyboard.
Today we announced the next phase of the BlackBerry 10 Dev Alpha program – the BlackBerry Dev Alpha C. It is a testing device for developers so that you can adjust, debug, and test your BlackBerry 10 applications to get ready for the launch of the BlackBerry 10 QWERTY device next year.
We're only producing a limited number of these testing devices, and they will be reserved on a priority list for developers who have demonstrated that they are building apps for BlackBerry 10.
Distribution will be limited to developers who submit two or more applications; these developers will be given priority seeding for the BlackBerry 10 Dev Alpha C. These developers will be determined on the following point system:
- 50 points for ported Android™ applications
- 250 points for all other applications (Native, BlackBerry® WebWorks™, Adobe® AIR®)
- 1500 points for Built For BlackBerry certified application
- BlackBerry 10 Dev Alpha A/B recipients start with 200 points
- BlackBerry Elite Members start with 200 points
The BlackBerry 10 Dev Alpha C offer will run from December 1, 2012 through February 5, 2013. The details on the program can be found here, and keep following @BlackBerryDev for more info.

If you look up the term 'ecosystem' in the Collins Dictionary (hint: It's located a few pages after 'BBM ™' for BlackBerry ® Messenger), you will find it defined as:
"A system made up of a community of animals, plants, and bacteria interrelated together with its physical and chemical environment"
We hear this term used often regarding mobile devices, but instead of plants and animals, we talk about apps, media, customers, and developers. To further the analogy, the physical and chemical environments referred to in the definition are simply the BlackBerry ® Operating System (OS) and BlackBerry ® smartphones themselves.
Being strong in all of these areas builds a great mobile ecosystem. Right now, we are working to take the wonderful ecosystem we already have to BlackBerry® 10, and continue to grow it. How? By building an experience which doesn't just rely on great devices or gobs of average apps, but one that supports developers, assists users, and brings killer apps. While making sure that all three interact well with the OS itself.

The countdown is on for the BlackBerry® 10 launch event on January 30th, 2013, and last week we asked you to vote for the BlackBerry 10 feature you're most excited for. When I last checked on the results, you were most excited about BlackBerry Flow.
To show my dedication to you, #TeamBlackBerry, I set out to make a new video for the Inside BlackBerry Blog that shows off BlackBerry Flow with a series of common tasks being performed one-handed. I faced a small problem, though – with all the BlackBerry 10 experts on the road talking to partners and press, it's been hard to find time in their busy schedules. So I tracked down my friend and BlackBerry 10 expert Jeff and, ahem, stole a bit of his time to show me a bit more about Flow.

Debunking The Top NFC Myth: NFC is not just about mobile payments!
Popular perception seems to be that NFC is just a way to make mobile payments. Although RIM has been a key mobile payment advocate – including becoming among the first smartphones to be certified by MasterCard® and Visa® for NFC-based payments and working with EnStream in Canada – this capability was merely a stepping stone to a BlackBerry presence in the NFC space. Mobile payment capability is just one part of NFC technology's true potential.

Переслать - Avoid Long Holiday Lines – Shop from Your BlackBerry Device

(http://www.flickr.com/photos/brentdpayne/6427812917/)With the holidays quickly approaching, I'm spending as much time thinking about ways to avoid long checkout queues as I am about the gifts I need to buy. If I can order something online or from the convenience of my BlackBerry ® device, why would I ever wait in line?
There's a strategy known as the "Chat and Cut," where you pretend to know someone in line so that you can sneak in with them. Invariably, chat-and-cutters are a major reason why I love shopping from my BlackBerry smartphone and BlackBerry ® PlayBook ™ tablet. They can't cut their way into a mobile checkout queue!
Here are some strategies for avoiding the lines by doing your holiday shopping and planning directly from your BlackBerry device:
1. Download a great shopping app.
If you're brave enough to set foot in stores during the holidays, a barcode reader is really the way to go. ScanLife Barcode Reader – Auto by ScanBuy is a personal favorite because in addition to acting as a standard QR-code reader, it allows for comparison shopping. Scan the barcode of a product you like, see which retailers have it in stock, compare prices and find available coupons – all within the app. Impatience-meets-savvy shopping. Awesome.
I also enjoy the eBay by Research In Motion® Ltd. app. It has virtually all the functionality of the mobile site, allowing users to search items, buy, bid, pay or publish listings from a BlackBerry smartphone. Now that I can bid on merchandise in real time, my chances of winning have skyrocketed. And with BlackBerry ® Messenger ™ (BBM ™) integration, I can share my winning with my network.
2. Take full advantage of the handy native apps on your device.
I recommend using the MemoPad when brainstorming gifts, the tasks function to list out items you want to buy, and the calendar to set aside time to get everything done. It feels great to check off "completed" beside a task, and I'll bet you feel the same!
3. Use BBM to your full advantage.
In our fast-paced world, there is no time to play games (well, actually, I love playing games on my phone, but that's another story). Include your friends or family members in a BBM group, and when you conquer the mall together, save time by sharing instant messages about sales or short line-ups. Since I like to make my holiday wish list apparent, I change my BBM photo routinely to pictures of things I'd like to buy. Call it what you want, but it works.

This week marks American Thanksgiving, which means that the kick-off to the holidays has officially begun! It's important for me to maintain traditions, but as a tech aficionado, I like to integrate them with new technologies. Here are my favorite tips for using your BlackBerry ® device during the holidays. Just don't get it too close to the mashed potatoes and gravy!
Master the Gift Exchange by Handing-Down Old Devices and Accessories: Do you have any accessories you're no longer using? Chances are there's someone in your big family or social network that could use them, so bring them along to your holiday gatherings! (It's technically not a "re-gift.")
The Festive Dinner – Establish Phone Etiquette: For our parents and grandparents, having a mobile device at the dinner table is a major 'no no.' Yet in my family, we use our mobile devices during meals to take photos, send updates to our social networks, and to send inside jokes to one another via BlackBerry ® Messenger (BBM ™). Enable the 'Silent' or 'Vibrate' profile on your smartphone during meals, and if you'd like, customize your ringtones, notifications or alerts.
Deck the Halls with a Charging Station: When you're entertaining, preparing a charging station in advance will allow you to sit back and relax. Diminish holiday stress by allowing your guests to charge their BlackBerry devices beside the boughs of holly.
Organize a Video Chat Using Your BlackBerry PlayBook Tablet: We've come a long way from pictures with Santa at the mall. Now, video reigns supreme. Since many of my friends and family members live far away, I love using the Video Chat app on my BlackBerry ® PlayBook ™ tablet to send good wishes during the holidays. Simply use your BlackBerry PlayBook tablet to capture the magic of presents being opening on your device.
Be an Airport Pick-Up Pro: I'm always driving back and forth between the airport, fetching or dropping off visitors. To make sure I never miss flight delay or cancellation notifications, I use the BlackBerry® Travel™ app. It keeps all trip information in one place! One of my favorite things about the drop in temperatures is that the holidays – and holiday meals – aren't far away. We do a lot of planning and preparing of festive, traditional holiday meals. If you're like me, you might even keep photos of delicious meals on your BlackBerry ® smartphone to remind yourself how the final product should look—or as a trophy for a job well done. This year, I decided not to dust off the old cookbooks, but instead prepare a gourmet holiday meal using only my BlackBerry ® PlayBook ™ tablet.
Step 1: Finding Recipes – I store cookbooks on my BlackBerry PlayBook tablet through the Kobo by Kobo, Inc. reader app. Since we make so many holiday dishes simultaneously, it's nice that I can reclaim some counter space by having all the recipes I need on one device.
Step 2: Measuring Ingredients – It's great to think on the fly, but when it comes to replicating a family recipe, a unit conversion app helps to ensure you're adding the right quantities to your dishes. This will especially help if you're travelling across borders and cooking in unfamiliar kitchens with different utensils.
Step 3: Crises Aversion – Sometimes I need to call my grandmother, mom, or mother-in-law, for a cooking tip to avoid an emergency situation. Since "showing" is always better than "telling" when it comes to food, we use the Video Chat app on our BlackBerry PlayBook tablets. They can tell me exactly what to do, and it's often something I've never considered.
Step 4: Capturing the Final Meal – After developing a masterpiece, it's important to document it. Use the camera on your BlackBerry PlayBook tablet to photograph your meal. Using an app like Scrapbook, create a collage with customized colors and text.
