- T-Mobile USA Posts BlackBerry 10 "MyAccount" App in App World
I guess we now know that T-Mobile is going to get BlackBerry 10 devices at launch. @xAshley1983x noticed that T-Mobile USA has posted their T-Mobile MyAccount account management app in App World for BlackBerry 10 devices. I am not sure if this is a port of their Android app or a native app but I will let you know if I find someone with a T-Mobile SIM to try it out.
Check it out here and let us know if you can get screenshots on your Dev Alpha

Переслать - Plantronics Voyager PRO+ Bluetooth Headset $39 @Walmart
There is an amazing sale on my absolute favorite Bluetooth headset this week. The Plantronics Voyager PRO+ Bluetooth Headset. Plantronics has slowly improved the PRO over the years with this being the second of the three models. The newer PRO HD model ($71.99 @Amazon) does not really add any required serious functionality beyond a cool ability for the headset to know when you are wearing it.
Either way if you want an amazing Bluetooth headset check out the Plantronics Pro+ for $39.99 at Walmart. You get free shipping if you get the total over $45. This same headset goes for $69.99 on Amazon. If you do have the money for the PRO+ it is pretty cool but I don't think its worth another $32.

Переслать - "Built for BlackBerry" App Submissions Now Open for 10K Developer Commitment
RIM announced their new Built for BlackBerry program earlier this year along with their $10,000 developer commitment. Now those have been rounded out and the details are available for devs to understand. The key for the 10K developer commitment is getting your app certified as "built for BlackBerry." You need to do this before January 21st, 2013 to be part of the 10K dev commitment and simply login to your App World vendor account. You can then see under your manage applications page that there is a new column called built for BlackBerry with Apply links for all apps that are approved for sale. Its as simple as clicking that link and accepting those terms and conditions to be eligible for "Built for BlackBerry" status and the $10k commitment.
Check out the details here and RIM's announcement

Переслать - Urban Airship Adds Support for BlackBerry 10 Push & More Push News
If you are a cross platform developer who uses any sort of push notification you have either used or at least considered Urban Airship. They abstract the push interface and allow you to centralize your push notification system instead of configuring it for every system. Urban Airship already supports BlackBerry OS 7.1 and earlier along with iOS, Android, and more. Since Push Services did not change from BlackBerry 7.1 then Urban Airship already works with BlackBerry 10 but what is missing is a BlackBerry 10 client. Garett @RIM just posted up a notification today that RIM has put up a BlackBerry 10 Urban Airship sample app in GitHub using Cascades so you can check it out.
There are also some small changes in the permissions required to do Push on BlackBerry 10. You need to get your code signing keys provisioned to allow push. RIM says this is because of the power of push which allows developer to launch their application on your device. Here are the details. In a final note RIM has also added BlackBerry Push Services support to the Android Runtime for BlackBerry 10 Beta 4. That means devs can utilize push in their apps now. Details here.

Переслать - BlackBerry Mobile Fusion 6 Service Pack 2 Adds New Features
RIM released a new update to their BlackBerry Mobile Fusion 6 this week bringing it to Service Pack 2. This new version goes beyond bug fixes and adds some important functionality improvements. The main one is the ability to limit devices that can connect to a companies Exchange ActiveSync server to only devices that are managed and compliant with Mobile Fusion.
Check out the full features below or a nice breakdown in RIM's announcement:
- Gatekeeping for Exchange ActiveSync: provides enterprises with the ability to limit access to Exchange ActiveSync to managed and compliant devices
- Support for Proxy Servers for Outgoing Connections from Universal Device Service: this improvement helps enterprises deploy the Universal Device Service in their existing IT infrastructure
- SCEP Proxy for Certificate Provisioning to Managed Devices: enterprises that want to improve security and user experience using certificate based authentication can now provision certificates to devices from an enterprise CA without the need to expose SCEP to the Internet
- Support for Android devices with Motorola EDM: the Universal Device Service configures the native PIM client on devices that support Motorola Enterprise Device Management
- More Flexible Assignment of Automated Compliance Actions: administrators now have more flexibility in assigning measures to be taken by the system for jailbreaking and app incompliance by users and user groups
The new version can be found here

Переслать - What Song Should Dev Relations Sing for the BlackBerry 10 Launch Party?
The BlackBerry 10 Dev Relations team has been doing an awesome job of repurposing songs for BlackBerry dev events. I do not think they did one for Dev Asia this week but this did post up this video titled "the waiting is over!" It says that they will be bringing the band lead by Alec and Chris back for the BlackBerry 10 launch on January 30 and my guess they will be celebrating with a song during BlackBerry Jam Europe on February 5-6th 2013. They just have one question. What should they sing as the BlackBerry 10 Song?
Let us know your suggestions in the comments!

Переслать - Alec Saunders Reaches Out to 390,000 Appcelerator Titanium Devs – Prerelease on December 7th
We told you yesterday that the very popular Appcelerator Titanium Mobile platform was coming to BlackBerry very very soon. Now we have an official date of December 7th for the prerelease version. That means developers will have time to bring their apps to BlackBerry 10 and get their Dev Alpha. Devs will be able to reuse about 65-90% of their code when porting some of the 50,000 Titanium Mobile apps. Check out the details in the press release.
What is also great to see is Alec Saunders reaching out directly with a guest post on the Appcelerator blog stating simply that There is No Better Time – Carpe Diem Devs. He goes on to explain how BlackBerry 10 is not the BlackBerry development platform that they heard of over a year ago and what has changed since. To sum it up in his own words:
I don't build BlackBerry 10 apps, you say. I say, Why not? There's never been a better time for a developer who wants commercial success for their apps.
And yes, I've heard it all before – that BlackBerry is a dinosaur, that it's hard to develop for, that people aren't using BlackBerry smartphones, that there are no apps on BlackBerry. It's not easy to admit this, but there are elements of truth to these statements… or there were.
It is truly amazing the difference that a year can make.
I have to wholeheartedly agree. Its like a totally different company.

Переслать - RIM Commissioned Developer Survey Finds Positive Momentum
You always have to take survey results with a grain of salt if a company is paying for them but its good to see RIM is keeping an ear to the ground for developer sentiment. Awhile back I asked Alec Saunders how he measures success for his development relations team and this latest survey hits on many of those points. Here are the results from the independent survey from developers on multiple platforms:
- Developer attitude towards RIM has improved broadly and significantly
- 42% would definitely recommend RIM as a development platform, a 25% increase
- Global developers have shifted their focus away from Apple to other platforms including RIM
- 18% of developers surveyed say they are now developing apps for RIM, a 4% increase
- 8% now consider RIM to be their main (primary) development platform, a 5% increase
- Buzz and excitement is growing for BlackBerry 10 development
- 12% of developers heard positive buzz regarding BlackBerry 10 from other developers, a 7% increase
Here is to hoping RIM continues driving this momentum.

Переслать - BlackBerry 10 Continues Amazing Video & Audio Format Support (Incl. FLAC & OGG)
Those of you wondering about media format support on BlackBerry 10 need worry no longer. A friend of mine asked me what sort of support RIM would provide as a media player so I dug into it. After looking at RIM's public documentation on media (audio/video/images) support on BlackBerry 10 and it seems like they have taken the best of the PlayBook and BlackBerry OS 7. I was worried when the audiophile FLAC and OGG codecs were not supported on the PlayBook but RIM has brought them back with BlackBerry 10. They are also packing the less mainstream but useful formats including MKV and AAC.
Check out the full listing of BlackBerry 10 media support here and a comparison list here.

Переслать - Developer Documentation Reveals More of BlackBerry 10 (Skype Field in Contacts?)
I was digging through the AMAZING documentation RIM has provided for the new Beta 4 BlackBerry 10 Cascades and Native SDK and found some gems. On the top of my findings was going through the documentation for PIM and contacts when it shows the screenshot above. It seems like developers can create their own labels for fields in a contacts information. The interesting part is that it seems like the developer doing the documentation has one for Skype… (Rumor mill begin churning!) Check it out below:
RIM also managed to show off the music player in BlackBerry 10 along with the slick popup that gives you fast control of the music:
Also shown off are the new dialog, prompts, and toasts:
Along with font size changes:
And a new blue title bar for apps that use the light theme: (notice Alex in there with the Tungle connection!)
RIM also confirms the mapping application is still going to be called BlackBerry Maps. This is the configuration screen for the compass location diagnostics:
Let me know if you spot anything else!
