Переслать - BlackBerry Discussing "New Background Services Framework" at BlackBerry Jam this Month
I continued digging through the BlackBerry Jam developer catalog for later this month and struck gold. I found that BlackBerry has a session dedicated to what they have been calling "headless apps" until now but now call their "Background Services Framework." In a nutshell this framework will allow developers to run applications and processes in the background without having to be one of your 8 available Active Frames. Some apps like WhatsApp are already doing this framework will allow apps like RSS readers to update your cache every so often or allow notification apps like BeBuzz to work without you starting them.
The session description below almost makes it seem like the "Brand New Background Services Framework" will be available at BlackBerry Jam. My guess is that if it is then it will be a developer beta. Here is the session:
JAM47 – Background Services – Event Driven Processing for your Application
- Russell Andrade – Product Manager, Native SDK, BlackBerry
- Shadid Haque – Sr. Application Development Consultant, BlackBerry
The session will discuss the brand new Background Services framework which allows developers to bundle a separate process with their application to run in the background without a UI. Learn the basics of how this framework works, learn some guidelines about when to use it and when not to, and learn about the experiences of existing app partners that successfully deployed a background service and lessons learned from their projects.
Let us know if you attend the session!

Переслать - Flurry Mobile Analytics Coming to BlackBerry 10
BlackBerry 10 developers have been complaining to me about the lack of an analytics service for BlackBerry 10 apps. Even BlackBerrys own analytics program does not work on BlackBerry 10 and is set as "coming soon." This has not stopped an enterprising developer from creating a Localytics unsupported opensource client but it is something.
That is why I was glad when I read about the following session at BlackBerry Jam happening this month:
JAM68 – Flurry Mobile Analytics on BlackBerry 10!!
- Richard Brett – Lead Engineer, Flurry, Inc.
- Anthony Watkins – Senior Director, Developer Relations, Flurry, Inc
- Garett Beukeboom – Application Development Consultant, BlackBerry
One of the most important aspects to building successful apps is understanding who your users are and how they interact with your app. Using analytics you can quickly measure audience reach, engagement, retention, conversions, revenue and more. Join Garett from BlackBerry and Anthony from Flurry as they provide an overview of the newly released Flurry Analytics SDK for BlackBerry 10, the Flurry Analytics Dashboard and insights on how to get the most out of your analytics implementation.
The current SDK supports both Cascades and Native applications through a simple C++ or C interface respectively.
I think that pretty much seals the deal about Flurry bringing their analytics platform to BlackBerry 10. Hopefully others will follow!

Переслать - BlackBerry Z10 Gets OS 10.1.0.1627 Leak for STL100-1, STL100-2, & STL100-3
Its another day and another OS leak. These seem to be the OS versions that BlackBerry is seeding to their select developers. This time Lbfe managed to put together OS 10.1.0.1627 for the BlackBerry Z10 on every network but Verizon. That includes the STL100-1, STL100-2, and STL100-3 if you have been keeping track. Make sure to do a backup and then install this on your Windows PC. We take no responsibility for anything that happens to you while installing or using the leak but it has been stable so far. Also share a mirror if you can.
Check them out below:

Переслать - BlackBerry Z10 Gets Third Party Desktop Cradle With Spare Battery Charger
The official BlackBerry Z10 desktop cradle has yet to be released by that has not stopped some enterprising folks from creating their own. BerryFlow spotted this BlackBerry Z10 Desktop Cradle SF-SC on eBay for a very low $9.99 and it has some interesting features. It looks relatively fugly compared to BlackBerrys own style desktop cradles but its not terrible. It also throws in an extra battery charger for another LS-1 in the back. Sadly it does not tunnel the MicroHDMI through the dock so it cannot be used for media. The output is 1.6A which is a little bit less than the PlayBook charger but almost double the regular BlackBerry charger. You will need that extra PlayBook charger amperage for charging both the extra battery and Z10 at the same time.
Check out the SF-SC cradle on eBay here or BerryFlow's video of the cradle below:

Переслать - BlackBerry Confirms BlackBerry Q10 App Release Schedule for Some Top Apps (Amazon Kindle)
Owners of the new BlackBerry Q10 might have noticed by now that not all BlackBerry 10 apps are compatible with the BlackBerry Q10. This is because developers need to optimize their apps for the smaller screen size from the Z10 especially if the apps are ports. Our buddy Al Sacco at CIO.com ran into this issue and managed to get a response from BlackBerry's Marty Mallick, BlackBerry’s senior director of strategic business development, with the release dates on some key apps for the BlackBerry Q10. Check them out below:
- Amazon Kindle (First week of May)
- BlackBerry Travel (First week of May)
- BeWeather (End of May/Early June)
- eBay (End of May)
- OpenTable (End of May)
- GoMusic, Google Music clien ( No date set)
- Charge Anywhere Mobile Payments (early May )
- Amazon Shopping (Early to mid-May)
- Pacemaker (No date set)
- Google Talk ( No date set ) (editors note: this is already released)
- StubHub (end of may)
- Cisco WebEx (End of May)
- Truphone (this week)
- Gadget Box (No date set)
He also goes to note that games are also coming over to the BlackBerry Q10 but more games will be available for the BlackBerry Z10 due to its industry standard form factor. Let us know if you spot release dates for any other BlackBerry Q10 updates. Most of these releases have to do with the launch date of the BlackBerry Q10 in the target market. That is why you see so many US-centric apps coming in the end of May.

Переслать - AT&T Offering $100 off BlackBerry Z10 If You Trade In Your Current Smartphone
Trade in offers seem to be all the rage with carriers recently. AT&T just announced that they are offering at least $100 off the purchase of a new smartphone including the BlackBerry Z10 if you trade in your current smartphone that is no more than 3 years old and in good working condition. You just have to go to a store and they will give you the credit immediately. Check out the details below:
AT&T Offers Newest Smartphones at 50 Percent-Off with Trade-In of Current Smartphone
DALLAS, April 30, 2013 /PRNewswire/ — Beginning May 1, consumers who trade in their current smartphone to AT&T* will be eligible to receive at least $100 off the purchase of a new smartphone, including the new Samsung Galaxy® S 4, BlackBerry® Z10 or 32 GB HTC One®. These devices are normally $199.99 with a qualifying two-year agreement** but, with this limited time promotion, they will be available for $99.99.
This promotion applies to any smartphone AT&T sells, and gives customers access to the latest devices at a fraction of the cost or, in the case of smartphones priced under $99.99**, for free. To take advantage of this offer, customers are encouraged to visit any AT&T company-owned retail store or participating authorized dealer with their previous smartphone that is no more than three years old and in good, working condition. In stores, upon trading in their old phone, customers will receive the $100 credit on-the-spot and can use it immediately. ***
Some trade-in phones may have a value higher than $100. In this case, customers will receive the credit at the higher value.
AT&T offers a broad variety of smartphones that run on the nation's fastest 4G LTE**** network. AT&T 4G LTE currently covers nearly 200 million people; with plans to expand to cover 300 million people by the end of 2014. In a report***** by independent testing organization RootMetrics, AT&T's 4G LTE network was called "blazing fast." The report found AT&T's 4G LTE network delivered the fastest pure LTE speeds in markets where AT&T provided 4G LTE.
"This offer is a great opportunity for AT&T customers to get their hands on the newest smartphones in our portfolio at an outstanding price," said Eric Goldfeld, AVP- marketing management, AT&T. "With graduation and Mother's Day coming up, people can take advantage of this promotion to surprise someone – or even treat themselves – to one of our hottest smartphones. The best part is that you'll receive credit for your old phone instantly on-the-spot in AT&T stores."
In AT&T company-owned retail stores, AT&T's Trade-In Program lets customers turn in old wireless phones and receive an AT&T promotional card reflective of the device's trade-in value and condition. Customers can use the card to offset the cost of some of the latest wireless devices or the purchase of other AT&T products and services.*** All devices, including tablets data cards and feature phones – regardless of manufacturer or date purchased – will be considered for trade-in.
Beyond seeing a little more green in their pocket, AT&T customers that use our trade in program are also doing their part to support the company's sustainability initiatives. In 2012 AT&T customers recycled more that 3.1 million phones and broke the world record for cell phones recycled in a one-week period as certified by Guinness World Records.
Switching to a new smartphone has never been easier with AT&T Mobile Transfer, an app that syncs contacts, photos and videos from your old phone to your new phone. Just visit www.att.com/mobiletransfer to make sure both phones are compatible, download the app and follow the instructions to transfer.
Likewise, setting up your new smartphone is a snap with AT&T Ready2Go, a free service that helps you to easily set up and personalize your device in minutes from the comfort of your personal computer. With Ready2Go, it's easy to set up your email accounts, import your contacts, connect to your social networks and more.

Переслать - Review: dbrand Skins For BlackBerry Z10 and a Chance to Win One
Looking to add a little more flavor and personalize your Z10? Dbrand recently added the BlackBerry Z10 to the list of supported device. They make some really cool vinyl skins. They recently sent us a few for review and we also have extras to give some to you. The skins come in three different textures and several colors that allows you to pick to your liking.
Texture styles: Includes Leather, Carbon Fiber, and Brushed Titanium. They also have several different colors that includes jet-black to stark-white.
Design:
Dbrand has done a really nice job of making this skins fit the Z10 nicely. The skin is cut out into five different pieces one for the battery cover, two pieces for the side bezel, and two for the top and bottom front bezel of the Z10.
we use only Authentic 3M vinyl on our BlackBerry Z10 skins. That means there’s never any adhesive residue left on your device, guaranteed. We are committed to providing our customers with uncompromising quality. You can relax. We only use the highest grade, most textured materials on the planet.
Applying:
Applying the skin over the Z10 is not too hard after you watch the How to video at this link or below:
Desktop Video Link | Mobile Video Link Applying the skin is not too hard but you have to follow the instructions, and it does require some patience. The harder past is applying the ones on the side bezel to fit it correctly. I was able to apply most of the pieces on the Z10 without any trouble but the longer bezel pieces do require a little bit more attention. I have to commend the guys for their instructions video is by far one of the best I've seen in a while. I can see their attention to detail and perfection as they created a really good product.
Pros: The skins definitely give your device a different look and feel and can also keep it from getting scratched. Overall the skins feel nice and it does feel like you get a good grip on the device with the skin on it.
Cons: The skin once on, may keep the device from fitting snugged on some case, but I found that this was not the problem with most cases that use a flexible material. Hard cases such as snap-on cases usually don't fit correctly. So if you have some of this cases after applying the skin it may not work correctly.
Where to buy: Dbrand.com
Price: $20.00
Giveaway: We have a few skins to giveaway, so by simply commenting below you will get a chance to win one for your Z10. Note that in your comment you must note what device color you have whether it be White or Black. As each skin is designed to fit a specific device.
